About the Item
A large horizontal oil on canvas painting with gilded frame featuring men, horses and dogs painted in the style of Alvan Fisher from the Turn of the century. This stunning painting depicts two men resting with their horse, dogs and muskets near a brook flowing through a forest. The richness of the forest is captivating in the depth of its colors, particularly the greens of the grass and the white / gray of the tree trunks. The scene seems to capture the travelers at a moment of rest on their journey as they seem ready to emerge from the dense forest. The characters are placed towards the center of the composition, and the light cast on the small group, allows them to stand out beautifully, while our eye is gently lead towards the left side of the background, creating a profound sense of depth, while evoking that this is only a temporary rest towards their unknown destination. Set inside a lovely carved giltwood frame with foliage motifs and scrolls on the surround, this oil on canvas circa 1900 will be a wonderful decorative accent in any home.
