Painting Ludwig Klimek, Bathers in the Bay of Nice
About the Item
Ludwig KLIMEK was born in Krakow (Poland) in 1912.
Ludwig KLIMEK was born in Krakow (Poland) in 1912.
Fleeing the invasion of his country by German troops in 1939, he came to France at the age of 27.
He often goes to the Louvre Museum where he looks and discovers what he was taught in Krakow: Titian, Goya, Rubens. But it's Poussin who fascinates him.
Klimek is especially drawn to architecture: what he paints is ordered, constructed, a real balance emerges in his works.
He settled in Menton then in Juan-les-Pins.
He tells us, in typical French language, the growing heat of Provence, the carnal pleasure of bathers, the tufts of the pine forest, the sumptuous splendor of the sunsets ...
Under its landscapes of the sun swept away, a generous paste always pierces a certain lyricism.
He tells us what his instinct tells him. The lived vision becomes a dream. The impossible becomes possible: he paints.
Klimek is a daydreamer.
"Klimek creates a new space that brings to mind both the mystical world of Kandinsky and the organized reverie of French painting today…. But Klimek’s work continues to amaze us because it is essentially a creative impulse, it offers us a constant back and forth between our deepest self and the outside world. »(Remarks made by G. MATORE, director of the Department of French civilization at the Sorbonne).
