Tanoux Adrien (1865-1923) "The Bathers" - "Les Baigneuses" Oil on canvas, signed lower left and dated 1903. Dimensions of the canvas : 49 x 64 cm Dimensions of the frame : 79 x 94 cm Artist exhibited at the Petit Palais in Paris; at the museums of Fine Arts of Nice, Marseille, Chambéry, Rouen, at the museum of Grenoble and at the museum of Faïence and Fine Arts of Nevers. >> TANOUX Adrien (1865-1923) Antoine Auguste Adrien Henri Tanoux known as Adrien TANOUX was born on October 18, 1865 in Marseille. After beginning his training in 1878 at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Marseille, he went to Paris and the Ecole des Beaux Arts to study under the famous Léon Bonnat. At first inclined to represent popular scenes of Parisian suburbs, he gradually evolved towards genre painting, portraits and orientalist scenes. From 1886, he regularly exhibited his works at the Salon des Artistes Français de Paris, of which he became a member in 1905, and received numerous awards: an honorable mention at the 1889 World's Fair, a third class medal and a second class medal respectively at the 1894 and 1895 Salons, the year in which he also received a travel grant. Noted for his paintings of nudes, of women with sensual and voluptuous beauty, he practices a tender and mannerist figurative style. He often places his models in an atmosphere of well-tuned tones where he plays with light and shadow with skill. He decorated the wedding hall of the 14th district town hall in Paris with an intricate scene "La Noce" (1888), and the festival hall of the 10th district town hall with "Les Théâtres" in 1905. He died in Paris in 1923.
