About the Item
The revolving octagonal top with a rare cloth inset decorated to simulate needlework with a central vignette of a garden and a viaduct, surrounded by anthemion and floral borders, the frieze fitted with alternate real and dummy drawers, on an octagonal panelled pedestal fitted with a cupboard door.

This elegant Georgian rent table comes from Powderham Castle, the ancestral home of the Courtenays, the Earls of Devon, one of the oldest titled families in Great Britain. The table was almost certainly acquired by William, 2nd Viscount Courtenay, during the second half of the 18th century.
