American Modernist Silver Brooch by La Paglia, 1940
About the Item
A realistic La Paglia silver floral bud suspends from a vine and two leaves. We love the movable nature of this brooch, the swirls and silver beading. The brooch is refined and elegant and appears to be Danish but is American Modernist in style made in 1940.. The Danish similarity is due to the fact that Alphonse La Paglia studied in Denmark with Georg Jensen. He was a serious student and went on to be a fine silversmith of jewelry and objects. Born in 1907 and passed away way too young in 1953 at the tender age of 46 yrs. The brooch is hallmarked sterling silver and stamped with the artists name. Size 2 1/8 inches high. Width at leaves 2 1/4 inches Weight 17.1 grams
