Art Deco Buddha Sureté Pin by Ghiso
About the Item
An Art Deco Buddha sureté pin by Ghiso, the pin set with a fine green pâte de verre Buddha, resting upon an onyx and rose-cut diamond cluster pedestal, and surmounted with a black enamel and rose-cut diamond crown, all to a platinum and yellow gold mount and stainless steel stick pin, secured with rose-cut diamond-set end cap in a form of fleur-de-lis, signed Ghiso, bearing French hallmark for platinum 950, circa 1925, the jewelled part measuring approximately 3.3cm long, the pin measuring approximately 8.9 cm long, gross weight 8.1 grams.
This pin is in excellent condition. Unmarked, tested as 18ct gold and platinum with steel pin.
A wonderfully detailed Art Deco Buddha sureté pin. This pin was made by Ghiso, the early twentieth century jeweller established first in Buenos Aires and then in Paris. This piece features a wonderfully carved green Buddha figure decorated with black onyx and diamonds. The Buddha motif exemplifies the Art Deco interest in Chinese style designs, while the onyx and diamonds and geometric design were all very popular during the era. This exquisite piece comes from the extensive stick pin collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and exemplifies Art Deco taste and masterful craftsmanship.
