Victorian Yellow Gold Etruscan Revival Tooled Brooch with Locket, Circa 1860's

About the Item

Victorian yellow gold Etruscan Revival brooch with locket to the back - fine and elaborate engraved gold scroll pattern to the front panel - hand made featuring gold balls to the rim - numerous auction house/jeweler notations to the back (one photographed) - original 'c' catch and steel pin with tube hinge - tests between 20K and 22K gold - unsigned - circa 1860's. Excellent antique condition - all original - no loss - no repairs - signs of age and use - oxidation to the back - original 'c' clasp with steel pin and tube hinge - ready to wear. Size/Dimensions - Medium - 1 1/2" Wide x 1 1/4" High x 3/8" Deep. Weight - 11.05 Grams (Total).

    This Victorian-era Etruscan Revival locket, circa 1870’s-1880’s, opens to reveal the daguerreotype of a young man. Across from it is a blank frame where an additional photo can still be added. The daguerreotype is hand-colored—the man has rosy cheeks and there is a slight blue tinge to the background. The front of the locket features ornate twisted-wire motifs and granulation, typical to the Etruscan Revival period, and there are seed pearls on the front emblem.
