Aldo Cipullo Vintage Blue Agate Carnelian Link Necklace

About the Item

Step into the realm of timeless elegance with Aldo Cipullo's masterful creation, a long necklace that epitomizes the designer's ingenuity and commitment to pushing the boundaries of high jewelry. Born in 1935 in Italy and later establishing himself as an American jewelry designer, Cipullo's illustrious career included influential roles at Tiffany and Cartier during the mid-20th century. Crafted in the late 20th century, this captivating necklace showcases Cipullo's ability to seamlessly blend classical sophistication with avant-garde innovation. Comprising 17 meticulously carved round links fashioned from the exquisite blue agate, each piece is a testament to the inherent beauty found in nature. The links, symbolic of unity, are interconnected by 18k yellow gold rings, infusing the piece with a radiant and luxurious allure. At the pinnacle of each gold ring rests a pyramid-shaped carnelian stone, its deep brownish red hue adding an element of passion and mystery to the necklace. The pyramid motif, reminiscent of ancient architectural designs, imparts strength and regality to the overall aesthetic. This meticulous combination of materials and design elements reflects Cipullo's distinctive approach— marrying traditional elegance with contemporary vision. Aldo Cipullo's legacy is not only defined by this enchanting necklace but also by his groundbreaking designs, including the iconic Love bracelet created in 1969. The bracelet's sleek modernity and unisex appeal are a testament to Cipullo's ability to capture the spirit of his time while creating enduring symbols of love and commitment. Despite his untimely passing in 1984, Aldo Cipullo's influence reverberates through the world of high jewelry, inspiring generations of designers and enthusiasts. This necklace, an exquisite embodiment of his artistic prowess, stands as a timeless testament to Cipullo's enduring legacy — a legacy marked by innovation, sophistication, and an unwavering dedication to the craft of jewelry design. The necklace measures 22" (57 cm) long and weighs 179.30 grams. Circa 1970s.

  • Contemporary Diamond Festoon Collar Necklace
    Located in New York, NY
The defining flourish of a festoon necklace is the drama of its swag, opulently undulating and accenting the collarbones in radiant sparkle. Festooning has been used since ancient times, with the most recent celebratory example adorning the city of London at the Coronation of King Charles. In classical Greek and Roman architecture, the festoon was a garland of ribbons, flowers, fruit, or foliage draped between two supports, used as decoration and, at times, the symbol of saintliness, glory, or victory. These garlands were also worn on the body--on the head or around the neck to signify honor or celebration, and this tradition was carried forward to the Classical period, the Renaissance, and through to Victorian England, especially as a recurrent motif in paintings and sculpture. The festoon is also a type of necklace that contains several drapes or swags of gemstones, chains, and other sculptural elements as the critical elements of the design. The style became popular during the Georgian period (1714–1830s), carrying over into the Victorian era (1837–1901), and has been revived with many sparkling all-diamond...

About the Brand: Aldo Cipullo is mostly known as a creator of the famous Cartier Love bracelet. However, he designed several iconic pieces, and his talent was appreciated by David Webb and Tiffany & Co. His father was a costume jewelry maker, and Aldo worked as an apprentice at one of his workshops. But Cipullo’s ambition went further than Italy where he was born. After he turned 23, he moved to New York to study at The School of Visual Arts. In 1969 Aldo Cipullo started to work for Cartier, and his glorious journey began. Very soon after Cipullo came up with the idea of Cartier Love bracelet. The new design made a big splash in the jewelry world. It was a completely new perspective of the classic look. There is a story behind creating Love bracelet. It says Cipullo was heartbroken at that time after a failed love affair. He wanted to lock in his memories as it was all he had left. Being fascinated by industrial features of New York City and all things hardware, he drew his first draft of the bracelet. Another emblematic piece by Cipullo called Juste en Clou (Just a Nail) came up in 1971. The minimalist, wrapped around nail-looking gold bracelet was a great success. Today the yellow gold, rose gold and white gold Cartier Nail bracelet...
