Fabergé White Enamel Egg Shaped Miniature Frame

About the Item

A Fabergé white enamel egg shaped miniature frame, the translucent enamel on an engine turned radiating guilloché ground, with a picture aperture surrounded by 40 seed pearls in a silver setting, the yellow gold outer edge with a ribbon and bow motif, fine bone back, the stand resting on a gold scrolled easel, the two scroll motifs bearing the marks for Fabergé and the initials of Workmaster Henrik Wigstrom, measuring 4cm x 6cm, St Petersburg circa 1910, gross weight 34.2 grams. This exquisite Fabergé miniature frame comes from the Fabergé collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Fabergé was established in St Petersburg in 1842, and by the late nineteenth century, was Russia’s largest and best-known jewellery house. The house has become known for their royal commissions and their close ties to the family of Tsar Nicholas II. This frame was made in around 1910 by famed workmaster Henrik Wigstrom, whose supervision was responsible for the production of many of the Imperial Easter eggs. This frame is in the shape of an egg, referencing the Easter eggs made for the Tsar and his wife every year. It features a spectacular radiating pattern made from guilloche enamel surrounding a small round frame that is surrounded by fine seed pearls. Around the exquisite enamel work is a delicate gold edge topped with a detailed gold bow. This frame is an excellent example of Wigstrom’s style, and of the period of Fabergé in which this piece was made.
