Antique French Porte Bouquet, Tussie-Mussie, Enamel & M. O. P.

A remarkably fine early Victorian posey holder, more aptly called a 'porte bouquet' by the French, or 'Tussie-mussie' by the English, this one has a beautiful high pearlescent handle of carved mother of pearl, natural shell. The bowl or vase is pressed brass alloy with a high brilliant gold finish that does not tarnish, and it is ornamented by kiln-fired enamels in white, cobalt blue and lime green. The anchor pin remains tethered by its chain and at the ready. If there was ever another chain with a finger ring on it, there is not evidence of it now. A lovely example of a charming Victorian accessory.
