Donegal Carpets wurde 1898 von dem schottischen Textilfabrikanten Alexander Morton gegründet. Er hatte zunächst eine Teppichmanufaktur an der irischen Westküste gegründet, bevor er nach Donegal zog, einem traditionellen Zentrum der Wollverarbeitung.
