About Charlotte Barnes Interior Design & Decoration

Charlotte Barnes has spent three decades bringing interiors to life with an instinctive design eye. Her fearless yet masterful use of abundant pattern and color, light and texture integrates fine art curation, custom design, architectural planning and technical expertise into the world of decorative arts.

A foundational career in fashion and design, fed by Charlotte's intuitive sense of style, evolved gradually into interiors. She first developed her eye at Ralph Lauren Womenswear in New York, then London, where she was integral to the launch of Ralph Lauren Womenswear in Europe. Evolving a universal superpower from its earliest days was a formative foundation, developing her instincts for hard work, resourcefulness, intuition and trust. A stint as President and CEO at Pomellato USA, the Italian fine jeweler, sharpened a perfectionist streak for objects large and small. In a defining turn, Charlotte's London townhouse was photographed for British House & Garden in 1995. By the time she and her young family had resettled in Connecticut, the lushly layered interiors, brimming with heirlooms and idiosyncratic charm, had made their way stateside. Her services as a decorator were quickly in demand, a pivotal moment that led to an award-winning interior design practice thriving for 30 years.

Inspiration comes as much from a favorite family painting as classical European design history – or the perfect white t-shirt. Charlotte's designs are rich in personal flair and lived-in luxury, yet never over-studied. The fun is always in the surprise: a risk that pays off, the thrill of the hunt, the instinct to buy what you adore and trust it'll find its place. Today, from her studio in Greenwich, her global firm spans projects across town, country and coastlines worldwide. Each project is built with the same intention and longevity as her relationships with her clients, with spaces and objects admired through generations. That philosophy starts on day one, with her firm brought in at the earliest stages of planning, working alongside architects so structure and interiors are conceived as a single vision.

Charlotte's work has appeared in House Beautiful, British and U.S. House & Garden, Frederic and many more. She has been honored with the CTC&G Innovation in Design Award for Interior Design, named to the 1stDibs 50, and inducted into the New England Design Hall of Fame. She serves as a Decorators Club Board Member, Sr. Vice President, and Elsie de Wolfe Award Co-Chair.
