THE ARTIST:
Born in Corsica in 1920, Charles Levier developed an internationally recognized career as a modernist painter, known for his stylized still lifes, cityscapes, harbors, and figurative works. He studied at L'École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs where he was influenced by mentors André Lhote and Georges Rouault.
After serving as a military liaison during World War II, Levier divided his time between France and the United States, building a successful postwar career with solo exhibitions in Paris, New York, and Los Angeles. His distinctive style — bold outlines, Cubist geometry, and richly layered color fields — was shaped by modernist pioneers including Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.
Levier’s work was collected by cultural icons such as Frank Sinatra, Jackie Kennedy, and Dean Martin, and remains in the permanent collections of the National Museum of Modern Art (Paris), the Menton Museum, the Atlanta Museum, and others.
Levier passed away in 2003, leaving behind a compelling body of work that bridges French modernism and American midcentury design. His paintings continue to captivate collectors seeking striking compositions with refined structure and atmosphere.

Charles Levier
Charles Levier wurde am 26. Januar 1920 auf Korsika geboren. Er war der Sohn eines französischen Vaters und einer amerikanischen Mutter. Seine Faszination für Farben und Formen führte ihn im Alter von 17 Jahren zu einem Privatstudium an der École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Mit Beginn des Zweiten Weltkriegs diente Levier in der französischen Armee in Nordafrika und wurde später Verbindungsoffizier beim U.S. Office of Strategic Services. Gemälde von Levier sind in zahlreichen privaten und öffentlichen Sammlungen zu finden. Zu den Sammlern gehören u.a. Mr. und Mrs. Peter Lawford, Frank Sinatra, Adlai Stevenson, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, Prinz und Prinzessin Poniatowski, Mrs. Dan Topping, Mr. und Mrs. Dean Martin und viele andere. Levier starb im Jahr 2003.
