Sound Shore

An opportunity to work with repeat clients, this beachfront writer’s retreat began as a furnishing/decorating exercise at a small cottage several years ago. After a few uninsulated winters, the couple and their two young kids embarked on the design of a ground-up home on the property. The goal of this project was to create a warm, comfortable living space that is fresh, clean and practical for a family with two children, eclectic elements, natural materials and handmade/vintage pieces mixed in.

This home is a place for the family to recharge, connect with nature and a vehicle to inspire creativity for the owners, one of whom is a writer. The use of color inside is a foreground to the stunning view of the blue sky and water and adds balance and interest to the interior. The blue color is a thread that continues throughout the house. The home is also a vehicle through which to start a collection of important design pieces. We love the opportunity to blend high design with more affordable and practical pieces, so you can see a vintage Noguchi lamp from the 1950s paired with a sofa from West Elm.
