The Grand Tour

Family Home von Art/artefact in Richmond, VA

Inspired by the ultimate dinner party and the Grand Tours taken in the 17th and 18th centuries, the dining room was draped in fabric inspired by the Villa Medici in Rome, and a custom tablecloth by Sarah Espeute featuring decorative still life objects falling off the table was commissioned for the room. Chair overlays after Giovanni Battista Piranesi's famous etchings Vedute di Roma grace the seats at the table. Edible sculptures entitled Architectural Digestion created for Art/artefact by Andrea Ferrero complete the scene as pièces montées, evoking the lavish court banquet traditions of the Grand Tour period. Florals inspired by Goethe's Italian Journey crown the tablescape.
