This expressive floral still life by Charles Levier, painted circa 1955 and hand-signed lower right, showcases his signature blend of abstraction and structure. THE ARTIST:
Born in Corsica in 1920, Charles Levier developed an internationally recognized career as a modernist painter, known for his stylized still lifes, cityscapes, harbors, and figurative works. He studied at L'École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs where he was influenced by mentors André Lhote and Georges Rouault.
After serving as a military liaison during World War II, Levier divided his time between France and the United States, building a successful postwar career with solo exhibitions in Paris, New York, and Los Angeles. His distinctive style — bold outlines, Cubist geometry, and richly layered color fields — was shaped by modernist pioneers including Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.
Levier’s work was collected by cultural icons such as Frank Sinatra, Jackie Kennedy, and Dean Martin, and remains in the permanent collections of the National Museum of Modern Art (Paris), the Menton Museum, the Atlanta Museum, and others.
Levier passed away in 2003, leaving behind a compelling body of work that bridges French modernism and American midcentury design. His paintings continue to captivate collectors seeking striking compositions with refined structure and atmosphere.

Charles Levier
Charles Levier nació el 26 de enero de 1920 en Córcega. He era hijo de padre francés y madre estadounidense. Su fascinación por el color y la forma le llevó, a los 17 años, a la École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de París para cursar estudios privados.
