Large Balinese Batik print by Suhirdiman 1976. Period Indonesian, dated 1976 Artist Suhirdiman Medium Batik print Frame 95 x 84 cm / 37 1/2 x 33 in Signed and dated by the artist Frame set behind glass in original moulded wooden frame Condition: Good condition commensurate with age. Few age spots and little wear to frame. Ready to hang Originally retailed by The Rowley Gallery, Kensington Batik is a traditional Indonesian technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to the cloth. The technique originated from the island of Java, Indonesia. Batik is made either by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool called a canting, or by printing the resist with a copper stamp called a cap.
