New Romantic: a Union Park townhouse
This Victorian townhouse, chopped into apartments decades earlier, had all but lost it's story. But it was still there; in the sweep of brownstone steps to the front door. In the 19th century park across the street with cast iron fountains throwing a mist in the air. And in the rococo moldings salvaged from the original parlor.
These glimpses inspired a new story; a home alive with furniture and artwork seemingly collected over generations. A top to bottom renovation allowed for a new take on Victorian design, with all it's playfulness minus the Dickensian gloom.
In the entry hall a 17th century gilt mirror reflects a pair of Vladmir Kagan Cloud sofas. Blue and white pottery stand in the kitchen by a group of Hans Wegner chairs. Tin Moroccan lanterns and vintage posters in the nursery replace the standard bassinet mobile.
No staid period piece – this is a true contemporary home.
