COLUMBUS DISCOVERS AMERICA(Jack of Swords) portrays a realistic portrait depicting a standing figure of Christopher Columbus dressed in a red uniform against a brown background posed with sword in one hand, and holding a green leafy branch in the other; symbolic line drawings drawings alongside him feature a serpent, a kneeling man with rope around his neck, kings crown, and an ancient roman monogram. References: Recorded and illustrated in the standard catalog of the authentic graphics of the artist by Albert Field, No. 79-6a, p. 131; also Michler and Lopsinger, No. 1520. Salvador Dali was born Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali y Domenech in Figueras, Spain, on May 11, 1904. Spanish painter, sculptor, graphic artist, and designer, Dali passed through phases of Cubism, Futurism and Metaphysical painting, he joined the Surrealists in 1929 and his talent for self-publicity rapidly made him the most famous representative of the movement. Salvador Dali is considered as the greatest artist of the surrealist art movement and one of the greatest masters of art of the twentieth century.
