Scott Troxel
American Contemporary Sculpture by Scott Troxel - Sled

2017

About the Item

Artwork made by reclaimed wood, acrylic & oil. Small Pop series are minimalist driven, wood wall sculptures that are small and blocky and feature bright saturated colors. The pieces was inspired by my love for simple bold colors and modernist repeating patterns combined with organic wood grain. The pieces have a modern feel yet also bring a decidedly retro vibe to any wall in which they are placed. Similar to mid century modern furniture and graphic design, the artist strives to produce work that feels very modern yet has a retro futurist nod to the past. The result is a fun, sculptural piece of modern art that creates conversation in any room. Wired to hang and finished on three sides. Scott Troxel is an American abstract artist born in 1971 who lives & works in Marmora, NJ, USA. From an early age, Scott has been obsessed with modern art, color and design. He is a painter, sculptor and wall sculptor. Recently, a majority of his work has been in the form of wood mixed media wall sculpture because of the three dimensionnel medium process he does. He is always exploring materials and processes. Sometimes he uses repurposed and found materials and other times he purchases materials new.

  • American Contemporary Sculpture by Scott Troxel - Ultra Marine
    By Scott Troxel
    Located in Paris, IDF
Artwork made with birch, acrylic, satin lacquer & metallic gold venetian plaster UltraMarine is a mixed media wall sculpture. Made from acrylic washes on birch, MDF and gold metallic Venetian plaster paint. Finished with an elegant satin clear lacquer to enhance the wood grain. The multiple opacities of navy and indigo are almost denim-like in color and allow the brown wood grain to add texture and interest to the piece. Ultramarine takes on the abstract form of a soaring building or perhaps a church spire or other tall building in form. Ultramarine is a monochromatic piece which is minimalistic in nature, so the form, composition and the balance of the piece trump a definitive subject matter. However, the shape is reminesent of mid-century modernism, the sputnik design movement and futurism. The result is an elegant wall sculpture...

Artist's Statement: "Around 30 years ago, not long after I had started painting seriously, I was at a one-man exhibition of the great Brice Marden at the Fort Worth Museum of Modern Art when I visited the annex to get a cocktail. There was one other guy at the small bar table in an otherwise empty room, waiting for his coffee to be handed to him. He turned and dumped half of it down my front. I immediately recognized him as none other than Brice Marden. He apologized profusely, but I stopped him and said: 'No problem: how often is it that Brice Marden dumps coffee on your pants? They're worth more now.' We both had a good laugh. At any rate - I was certainly channeling his early work when I began work on this series. They are made with oil and beeswax on wood panels...
