"California" Hilly Landscape Scene with Eucalyptus Trees
By Tim Solliday
Located in Austin, TX
By Tim Solliday
12" x 9" – Oil on Board
This lovely scene depicts the hilly Californian landscape on a sunny day. Californian eucalyptus trees tower in the foreground next to a creek. Blue purple haze covers the peaks of the hills in the background. This piece comes ready to hang in a golden frame.
About the Artist:
Tim Solliday is a contemporary California Plein-Air Painter and Western Artist, celebrated for his landscapes of the San Gabriel Valley and his depictions of American Indians and other Western subjects. He embarked on his professional journey in the early 1980s after studying in the 1970s with Theodore Lukits (1897–1992), a notable California Impressionist portrait and landscape painter. Born in 1952, Solliday was inspired to paint by his artist father. He received his formal education in the late 1980s under Theodore N. Lukits, and his painting style is often compared to that of the Taos Society of Artists painters William Herbert Dunton and Ernest Martin Hennings.

Capriccio Panoramic landscape Sea Bay at sunset 18th century Large oil painting

The events depicted in the painting take place possibly somewhere in the Middle East or North Africa. Painting takes us to the times of great explorations and sea voyages. In those days, the knowledge of something new and unknown was the cause of numerous discoveries and adventure. In the foreground we see the harsh conquistadors, who presumably play the role of guarding the trade caravan here, the figures depicted on the canvas are fussing and busy loading things onto camels. The buildings and towers of the coastal city are visible in the distance. Atmospheric mood is added by a beautiful sunset over the sea bay...
