2000s John Galliano for Christian Dior Felt Wool Cutout Coat

About the Item

This John Galliano for Christian Dior wool felt coat is in a classic late 1990s or Y2K 'coatigan' shape, with wide sleeves and button detail. It features an unusual cutout design of flowers and slits which create an almost leaf-like shape. The piece has a rounded collar and five large tooth effect toggle fastenings, which run in parallel to the slash detail down the front. The sleeves are wide and are finished with rows of slits to each cuff. The coat has a waist seam which helps to define its shape, and a lovely structured A-line. The fabric is a very deep chocolate brown/black colour, with a paler brown contrast colour on the inside, which is revealed via the cutout details throughout. Both the left and right sides have a deep pocket, perfect for holding winter essentials. The coat falls to a maxi length, and the hem is adorned with further flowers, contrast stitching, and slashed cutout details. The coat is in fabulous vintage condition, with no visible marks or flaws. Labelled very faintly as a size 'S', it would best fit a 10 UK or 6 US and below. Due to the length, it would be better suited to someone taller, at 5ft 7in and above. Probably A/W 2002. MEASUREMENTS: BUST: 39 in ( 99.06 cm ) WAIST: 34 in ( 86.36 cm ) SHOULDER: 32 in. • 1960s Jeff Banks Clobber Black Velvet Hooded Coat
    By Jeff Banks
    Located in London, GB
This late 1960s black velvet hooded Clobber coat has a real autumnal, almost witchy feel. It features a high neck with button and loop fastening running all the way down the front, with each button embossed with a etched floral repeat pattern. The velvet itself is a very fine chenille, which has a lovely luminosity to it despite being charcoal black in colour. Though the main body of the jacket is unlined the hood is lined with soft black silky fabric, making it lovely and comfortable to wear. The coat flares out slightly at the waist, creating a classic Victorian, almost gothic style silhouette. This coat is in excellent vintage condition, with no flaws or marks to note. It is shown here on our size 6-8 model and would best fit up to a 8-10 UK, or 4-6 US. The influential designer was a pivotal member of the swinging 60s London fashion scene when he cofounded 'Clobber' in Blackheath Village, London, in 1964. The boutique carried both his own designs and the work of other designers and attracted celebrities such as Terence Stamp and Jean Shrimpton, Twiggy and some of the Beatles. It proved such a success that in 1969, he launched his own fashion label, opening the first standalone Jeff Banks...
