Vintage Chinese Republic Period Cloisonné Bowl, Early 20th Century

About the Item

An exceptional and finely decorated vintage Chinese Republic period cloisonné bowl decorated with panels containing grotesque masks. The rounded and heavily made bowl stands on a narrow rounded foot with a shaped rim with a gilded finish to the edge and foot rim. The bowl is decorated with four panels in brightly coloured enamels on a turquoise ground set with a finely floral design wired dark blue ground. The pattern is repeated to the inside of the bowl, the inside bowl with further abstract patterns to a panel in bottom. The bowl is not signed. Republic Period, 1912-1949.

    A very fine and stylish antique oriental, Chinese attributed, cloisonne double gourd vase dating from the latter 19th century. The vase stands on a flat brass base with a wide round base, pinched waist and narrow round upper section with a funnel style top with a flat metal rim. The body of the vase is decorated with a mixture of flowering shrubs dominated with flowering hawthorn incorporating a butterfly to one side. The continuous scenes are decorated in colored enamels against a bright turquoise ground and set between formal borders around the foot, the pinched centre and top of the vase.
