George Hugo Tabor Doulton Lambeth Aesthetic Movement Large Art Pottery Vase
About the Item
A large, impressive and rare aesthetic movement Doulton Lambeth vase by renowned artists George Hugo Tabor, Eliza L Hubert and Ernest R. Bishop whose work is rare and dated 1883. The tall stoneware vase stands on a narrow round foot with a tall bulbous body with a narrow shoulder and large trumpet shaped neck and top. The body of the vase has been finely decorated to four sides with a twin handled vase containing tall stylized flowering blooms on leafy stems, a pattern more art nouveau than the earlier aesthetic period, the pattern set between two tall column borders with small raised flower head bandings above and below. The pattern is set against a white stipple unglazed natural ground. The lower body is decorated with a simple incised pattern set between raised flower head borders with the shoulder of the vase with a panel design also set between raised flower head borders. The vase is hand decorated in varied tones of blue, brown and white and has impressed makers marks to the base along with artist marks for George Hugo Tabor, Eliza L Hubert and Ernest R. Bishop with assistant marks for Matilda Marlyn. The vase is also dated 1883.

- Rare Pair of Doulton Lambeth Vases with Striking Golden & Enameled Flower DecorBy Doulton LambethLocated in Lisse, NLWonderful pair of handcrafted 19th century vases. When it comes to truly stylish and beautiful pottery nothing is as attractive as the pieces that were being created in Europe around the turn of the century. The designs, the colors and the quality reveil that both the designers and the potters in those days truly were 'on the top of their game'. And people who could afford those striking pieces, were able to decorate their homes in the most beautiful way you can imagine. In this day and age we sometimes see new interiors (also of the 'well to do') and because everything is machine made they lack both quality and beauty and because of that some places just don't come alive. They lack the soul that true artisans are capable of creating in their pieces. That attention to quality and detail is exactly what makes this rare and striking pair of vases stand...Category

- Ceramic Vase Royal Doulton Chang WareBy Royal DoultonLocated in Atlanta, GAA glazed ceramic vase in slender spindle form from the Chang Ware series by Royal Doulton (England, founded 1815) circa 1920-30s. The vase was decorated with thick and dripping glaze in rich mottled polychrome colors. The glaze shows overall irregular crackles, a signature characteristic of Chang Ware. The base is hand-marked "NOKE", Royal Doulton in rectangle and initial HN (for Harry Nixon). Developed by Charles J. Noke (1858-1941), Doulton's Art Director, as part of his experimentation into Chinese flambé glazes during the 1920s. Fired at very high temperatures, they were introduced commercially by Doulton in 1925 in response to popular demand for eastern style ceramics. They were applied primarily by Harry Nixon (1886-1955). The name Chang Ware was used by Doulton in reference to the possibly mythical Song potter, Chang the Elder, although it bears little relationship to Song ceramics.Category
