Pair of Unique Bode Willumsen Ceramic Pitchers from Own Studio, 1930s
About the Item
Amazing and unique early stoneware pitchers by Danish ceramic artist Bode Willumsen. Both were made at his own studio in the 1920-30s. The pieces were both hand molded by the artist himself from stoneware with a beautiful thick glazing. Signed by maker. These pieces were made before Willumsen joined Royal Copenhagen where many of his models went into serial production.
Bode Willumsen (1895 -1987 ) was a Danish Sculptor and Ceramicist educated at Bing & Grondahl in 1918. His father was the famous painter J.F. Willumsen. Signing artist at Royal Copenhagen from 1925 and onwards. He shared his own workshop and studio with friend and fellow artist Axel Salto from 1932 until the 2. world war made it impossible for him to get the materials needed.
