Doulton Burslem Jug Commemorating Alfred, Lord Tennyson

About the Item

This Doulton Burslem jug was issued in 1892 to mark the death of Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892), who was the Poet Laureate from 1850 until his death. On either side of the jug are moulded semi-relief busts of Tennyson, one with a trumpet wielding cherub, and the other surrounded by laurel leaves, all on a vellum coloured ground. Made in earthenware it stands 183 mm (7.25 inches) high and has a diameter of 137 mm (5 3/8ths inches). It is in very good condition. C 1895.
