1890 Pair of German Solid Sterling Silver Coolers (Buckets), Sea Creatures
Located in North Miami, FL
This exceptional pair of German Solid Sterling silver coolers, crafted in the year 1890, stands as a testament to the exquisite craftsmanship of their time. Created in the renowned workshops of Hanau by the skilled silversmith S. Rosineau and masterfully engraved by the celebrated artisan Juste Aurele Meissonnier, these coolers are a true embodiment of artistic excellence.
Crafted from solid sterling silver, these coolers bear a remarkable weight, testifying to their durability and quality. The level of detail and artistry displayed in their construction is truly breathtaking. The coolers exhibit a captivating hammered texture, a testament to the meticulous handwork that went into their creation.
The distinctive bellied shape of these coolers adds to their charm, featuring two elegantly designed handles. These handles portray mythical ocean creatures that are part human and part fish, their sinuous tails intertwined in a graceful dance. These mesmerizing creatures hold within their grasp two mythical sea beings, adding a touch of enchantment to the piece. The entire surface of the coolers is adorned with intricate chasing, featuring bacchic and marine figures that further enrich their visual appeal.
Each of these coolers is a substantial work of art, weighing an impressive 76.70 ounces, and bears the appropriate hallmarks to authenticate their sterling silver composition. Beyond their original intended use for cooling beverages, these versatile pieces can also double as exquisite vases, allowing for a variety of decorative possibilities.
In conclusion, these 1890 German...

Enormous and Great Condition Antique Bronze Morter and Pestle w. Satyr Sculpture
Located in Lisse, NL
Impressive, sculptural and highly decorative, 19th century morter.
This near bucket-size morter is the largest and heaviest we have seen and owned to date and this wonderful antique is in excellent condition. Today they are mostly known for use in the kitchen, but in 19th century Europe these were mostly used by doctors, pharmacists and chemists for grinding and mixing substances into powders, for medicinal purposes. This all handcrafted eye catcher comes with a satyr (or sater) sculpture on the front and back and the handles are like gargoyles or grotesk busts. To give you a better idea of its large size we have placed a regular size antique morter next to it. This largest ever morter must have been owned and used by one very successful medicine making business, because with this giant morter one could produce a whole lot in one go. This rare and stunning morter will make great decoration (or educational material) in a doctor's office, in a pharmacy or any other place where medicine and healing are the main focus of attention. No matter where you decide to have this antique on display, it will never fail to impress.
Mind you, our fair price for this handcrafted, solid bronze, rare, impressive, stylish and meaningful antique even includes perfect packing and also worldwide shipping from our store to your door in just 4 days.
Maximum height x diameter 8.1 x 10.2 inches.

Pair of Porcelain Urn Form Fruit Coolers with Covers and Liners
By Stône, Coquerel, and Legros d'Anisy
Located in New York, NY
Pair Footed Fruit Coolers, about 1810-20
Stône, Coquerel, and Legros D’Anisy, Paris (active 1808–49)
Porcelain, partially transfer printed in sepia and green and gilded
Each, 13 1/2 in. high x 10 in. wide x 7 1/2 in. deep
Signed and inscribed (on underside of one top and one base, with printed mark): STÔNE /
COQUEREL / ET / LE GROS / PARIS / PAR BREVET D’INVENTION: Manufre de Décors sur
Porcelaine Faience; variously inscribed with decorators’ initial in green and brown (on
underside of one top and one base): M; variously inscribed with incised mark (on underside of one liner and both bottoms): 3; inscribed (in blue script, on the inside of one liner): 615
The Parisian firm of Stône, Coquerel, and Legros d'Anisy is distinguished for the important role that it played in the introduction of transfer-printed decoration on fine china in France. Although the process had been known and used in Great Britain since the eighteenth century, it was, according to Régine de Plinval de Guillebon in her book, Porcelain of Paris 1770–1850 (New York: Walker and Company, 1972), not until 1802 that Potter, Blancheron, Constant, Neppel, Cadet de Vaux & Denuelle took out a patent in France for transfer-printing on earthenware, and it was only on February 26, 1808, that John Hurford Stône, his brother-in-law, Athanase Marie Martin Coquerel, and Francois Antoine Legros d'Anisy not only took out a patent for transfer-printing on china, but also established a Stône, Coquerel, and d'Anisy partnership for the manufacture of transfer-printed ceramics. Their address from 1808 until 1818 was at 9, rue de Cadran, Paris.
Prior to this, Stône and Coquerel had been partners at a creamware factory in Creil, France, and Legros d’Anisy had worked at the Sèvres factory, where he had apparently developed the transfer-printing technique for which his own firm became well known. “The process,” notes de Guillebon, was “based upon removing from the engraving a ‘pull’ made on a specially coated filter-paper, which was pressed onto the object to be decorated; this object itself was covered with a film. Firing took...

French 19th Century Hectolitre Winemakers Measure
Located in Baton Rouge, LA
This rare, painted tole and brass wine barrel was used by wineries to measure and pour their wines into bottles in preparation for consumption or sale. The tole and old paint have developed a wonderful patina over time. It is mounted with a pair of handles and three legs. The measure is outfitted with an overflow and a spout down one side which would allow the excess wine to be emptied into a vessel below to insure little waste. Every winery would have had one of these barrels and customers would bring a vessel and place it under the spout to fill with the desired amount of wine. The vintner would charge for the wine by using a measuring stick to determine how much was in the barrel before and after dispensing as not every vessel was of equal size. This wine vat...
