  • Richard Sapper ‘Tizio’ Table Lamp Artemide, Italy, 1972
    By Artemide, Richard Sapper
    Located in London, GB
Richard Sapper (1932-2015) was born in German but worked in Italy, and his work brings together the best design principles of both nations. He created this lamp in 1972, revolutionary for its time as the first lamp to use a halogen bulb, but also for its system of counterweights that perfectly balance the structure, allowing the user to position the light precisely on the desired area with a simple gesture of the hand. Selected in 1979 for the Compasso d'Oro, it was later incorporated into the MoMa's permanent collection. Still in production today, it now comes in three models: Tizio, Tizio micro...
