William Moorcroft MacIntyre Art Nouveau Blue Daisy Pattern Tobacco Jar

About the Item

Art Nouveau James MacIntyre & Co lidded tobacco jar decorated with tubelined daisies designed by William Moorcroft (English, 1872-1945) and dating from around 1900. William Moorcroft started out as a designer before becoming director of the art pottery department at James MacIntyre & Co at Burslem in Staffordshire. This squat rounded tobacco jar stands raised on a narrow round foot with recessed base and has a narrow upstand top rim with a clamp down fitted ceramic cover. The body of the jar is decorated with white tube lined daisy like flowers on tall leafy stems and are hand painted in tones of blue and set against green and light blue bands painted around the body of the pot with a simple gilded line around the top edge. The brass lid clamp unscrews and the ceramic cover has an inset rubber seal and the cover is decorated in green glazes. The jar has printed James MacIntyre marks to the base along with painted number M2469. Provenance: acquired in the British Art Market. In good condition with a tiny barely noticeable glaze nick to the top edge.
