Carlo Hauner Wingback Wrought Iron Lounge Chair, Brazilian Modern, Early 1950s

About the Item

Rare and beautiful lounge chair, designed by Carlo Hauner for Móveis Artesanal in the early 1950s. Sharing some particularities with other prototypical designs from his early days in Brazil, this chair is probably a one off or part of a very short production series. The wingback design adds a slightly serious touch, that we tried to even out with the subtle rose tone for the velvet upholstery. Original brass feet have been polished to add contrast to the touching points with the ground. The iron structure has been repainted, the cushioning and upholstery are new. All restoration process is documented and can be obtained from us. Carlo Hauner was an Italian designer that came to Brazil in the late 1940s, and in the early 1950s had already started his Brazilian design companies, namely Móveis Artesanal for furniture design, and Forma for ceramics design. The two companies later merged and became Forma S/A in the mid 1950s, with the participation of Austrian designer Martin Eisler. In the end of the decade, he returned to Italy to open Forma Italia, and after a few years started dedicating his life to producing wines. We offer *free* worldwide standard front door shipping on this listing.
