'Mah Jong' Living Room Set by Jean Paul Gaultier for Roche Bobois, Signed
By Jean Paul Gaultier, Hans Hopfer, Roche Bobois
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This large 22-piece living room set designed by Hans Hopfer for Roche Bobois, is called the "Mah Jong" sectional sofa with fabric and leather selections by Jean Paul Gaultier. Signed with Roche Bobois / Jean Paul Gaultier labels and repeat fabric. Included in this set are twenty two (22) pieces in total which include 12 square seat cushions (which also function as large ottomans and can be stacked), 4 straight backs, 2 corner backs, and 4 throw pillows. Unique to this set, which is quite rare, of the twenty two total pieces, two are light blue leather cushions with two light blue leather seat backs. The best part of this set is that you can mix and match the cushions and seat backs to make any style arrangement you wish, and create a customized room which you can change as frequently as your heart desires... you can create small and large sofas, loveseats, lounge chairs and ottomans using the cushions and seat backs. We also have other large Mah Jong sets available which can be combined with this set, if desired. Contact us for more details. Ideal for all kinds of uses... consider this set for a large screening room, den or living room, bedroom seating, entertainment room, commercial uses such as a hotel or boutique lounge, you can even spread the pieces around the house and put some in a large walk-in closet / dressing room, kids room, classroom or training room, and for those limited on space in an apartment - you can stack the cushions and then spread them out when you have company. A great way to make the most of space by keeping versatile with this Roche Bobois Mah Jong seating system. Originally designed in 1971 by Hans Hopfer the 'Mah Jong' seating system is as iconic today as it was then. Here is what Roche Bobois has to say about this design and the designer: Painter, sculptor, designer... Hans Hopfer designed sofas that are, for many, the indisputable “signature” of Roche Bobois’ collections. In the 1970s, Hopfer’s innovative and informal approach to comfort had a profound influence on the way people furnished and arranged their living space. In 1971, he created the Mah Jong, a sofa based on the total freedom of function and form. Starting with three basic elements that can be combined or stacked, the Mah Jong allows limitless options of composition. It can be an armchair, sofa, lounge chair or bed; a space in which to rest, to play or to lounge. It encourages experimentation and breaks the rules of formal living, reflecting the nonconformist era in which it was born. Avant-garde when first created, iconic today, and “dressed” by Missoni Home, Kenzo Takada and Jean Paul Gaultier, this “free form” modular seating is the reference point for fully modular and creative design. This large Mah Jong sectional sofa system by Hans Hopfer for Roche Bobois would work great in a Post-Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Space Age Mod, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Zen / Minimalism room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Hollywood Regency, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Use this set to create sofa sections, settee sections, easy chair sections, ottomans and chaises, even a large daybed or room sized night-bed using...

18th Century, French Laquered Giltwood Louis XVI Sofa by Pierre Nicolas Pillot
Located in IT
18th Century, French Laquered and Giltwood Louis XVI Sofa by Pierre Nicolas Pillot Stamped "PILLOT". Manufacture of PILLOT Pierre Nicolas (1748 - 1822) This important Louis XVI sofa was made by Pierre Nicolas Pillot (1748 - 1822) in the second half of the 18th century in France. The oval shaped seat has a carved wooden band with geometric decoration, gilded and lacquered in shades of blue. The ten legs, shaped like an inverted cone trunk, tapered and grooved, are also lacquered and gilded and originate from a quadrangular golden element with flower in the center. Very nice the back of the sofa, asymmetrical and sinuous line and move. The two external front legs give rise to the curvilinear armrests that end in a curl. From this element unfolds the backrest that completely wraps the seat. The sofa is stamped "Pillot", signed by Pierre Nicolas Pillot, "Maître" in Nîmes. He died in Nîmes on 13 September 1822. Fourth son of Marianne Veron and Jacques Pillot, "maître d'école". At thirteen, Pierre Pillot was apprenticed to Mathieu Bauve for a period of six years. He works with this Parisian master probably for nine years as a companion. In 1776 he moved to Nîmes, and after his marriage to Marianne Saulet in 1779, he became a Master in 1780. His workshop was located in the Prat district on College Island. His stamped production specializes in seats, between chairs, armchairs and sofas. His ornamental repertoire is predominantly neoclassical. Many of his furniture is kept in French museums, including the Musée du Vieux Nîmes and the Musée Fabre à Montpellier. Overall, the sofa has a line that resembles a dormeuse, but with a hospitable and comfortable support for the seat of two people. This particularity makes it unusual and rare. Completely lined with ivory fabric and floral decorations, it is in good condition. The Veilleuse are sofas for rest or "day beds" characterized by armrests of different heights and asymmetric backrest, in their function similar to the dormeuse or chaise-longue. They can therefore be used as a seat or even as a reading sofa...

'Mah Jong' 14-Piece Living Room Set by Kenzo Takada for Roche Bobois, Signed
By Hans Hopfer, Roche Bobois
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This incredibly large living room set designed by Hans Hopfer and edited in collaboration with Kenzo Takada for Roche Bobois, is called the "Mah Jong" sectional sofa. Included in this set are fourteen (14) pieces in total which include 7 square seat cushions (which also function as large ottomans and can be stacked), 1 panoramic seat cushion, 2 straight seat backs, 1 flip-up seat back, 2 corner seat backs and 1 panoramic seat back. We have several other Mah Jong sets including Missoni fabric sets so you can add to this set and combine to make a larger one if desired. What we love about this particular set is threefold... first it is comprised of only Kenzo Takada specialty fabrics. If you are familiar with Roche Bobois pricing system, specialty fabric elements can cost more than double the plain or simple fabric counterparts. Most sets will incorporate a portion of plain or simple fabric elements but rarely do you see sets like this where every single piece is a home run. And the fabric selection/ curation on this set is simply exquisite. Second, this set is in excellent almost-new condition. Roche Bobois introduced the Kenzo Takada collection in 2017 so this set is less than 5 years old. See below for more condition details. And third, the configuration is absolutely perfect and ideal for so many living spaces. It has three-corner elements and one of them is a Panoramic corner seat. It's great to get one Panoramic corner in a set as it is the ideal spot to stretch out and lounge - if this were my set and I had this at home, that is the spot I would choose most of the time. And the additional 2 corners allows you to wrap this set around a room and create the most cozy of cozy conversation pits. Plus having a flip-top seat back is so great, it brings a little of that Italian Maralunga style into the room. And what people love most about the Mah Jong system is that you can mix and match the cushions and seat backs to make any style arrangement you wish, and create a customized room which you can change as frequently as your heart desires... you can create small and large sofas, loveseats, lounge chairs and...
