2002 Chanel Cruise Collection Midnight Blue Silk Chiffon Draped Bias-Cut Gown

About the Item

This ultra rare, magnificent midnight blue silk bias-cut gown, dating back to Karl Lagerfeld's dreamy 2002 Cruise Collection, is a perfect example of why this fashion house has a worldwide following. The Chanel Cruise collections are inspired by Gabrielle Chanel's love for sailing; her passion for the sport led to her inception of a 'cruise' collection in the 1920's. They eventually fell off in popularity and it was not until Karl Lagerfeld took over as creative director at Chanel that the cruise collections started again. The fabrics used for this glorious midnight blue gown are magnificent; a mid-weight stretch silk jersey mixed with 'light as a feather' sheer silk chiffon. I love the nod to 1930's fashion with the easy to wear yet glamourous approach. The wide scoop neck bodice has a chic side CC logo while the other shoulder has beautiful looping panels that drape over your arm or loop through. At the top of that same shoulder sits a stunning silk chiffon and tulle floral applique. The same style drape chiffon panel curves over both the front and back hourglass bodice. The bias cut skirting hugs your body in the most flattering way and the bottom half has fantastic transparency with the sheer chiffon panels. A truly timeless, archival Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel look that will become a forever favorite. Measurements Marked a Size 36 (varies a bit due to stretch) Bust: 31-34 inches Waist: 24-27 inches Hips: up to 37 inches Total Length: 58 inches This 2002 Chanel Cruise Collection dress is in beautiful condition with original unworn Chanel boutique tag. Perfectly working original side hidden-zipper. A wearable investment piece that will only increase in value.

  • Vintage 1970 Mainbocher Couture Vogue Documented Hot Pink Flocked Silk Dress
    By Mainbocher
    Located in Beverly Hills, CA
Gorgeous Mainbocher couture shocking pink abstract floral dress dating back to his 1970 collection. As shown, this design was modeled by Loulou de la Falaise for Vogue magazine. Mainbocher was a well-respected couturier who operated fashion houses in Paris and later New York from the 1930's through the 1970's. Mainbocher's arrival in New York coincided perfectly with the city élite's love for French couture, for though he epitomized it, he satisfied their patriotism because he was actually an American. The integrity of luxurious fabrics, intricate cut, quality workmanship were cherished by Mainbocher's upper crust customers. This mid 1960's dress is a perfect example of his genius. The fabric is a lush mid-weight velvet flocked silk satin. The 3/4-length sleeve buttons down bodice really compliments the classic nipped-waist silhouette. The dress can even be worn as a dramatic jacket if you choose to leave it unbuttoned. You get the effect of elegance and edgy at the same time. I love the sculpted mermaid skirting which really moves beautifully when worn. As Mainbocher once said "I have never known a really chic...
