George Ohr (Potter) "Bag Shaped" Ceramic Savings Coin Bank Circa 1895
Located in Incline Village, NV
Very rare item by famous and world renowned, avant garde "Mad Potter of Biloxi" George Ohr; known for creating many of his pieces with an abstract design, incorporating sexual and erotic themes, much in the same manner as Georgia O'Keefe (there is, in fact an "Ohr--O'Keefe Museum". Many talented potters have tried to imitate his artistry, but with zero success, as his style is indigenous to himself----George Ohr. For more information it would behoove the interested antique historian and potter to acquire the authoritative book on the subject and the man, "The Mad Potter of Biloxi" written by Eugene Hechte, Garth Clark and Robert Ellison; published in 1989. This bank is circa 1895 and is in completely original and excellent condition, with zero restoration, no cracks, and the original surface. It is clearly marked with the appropriate markings on the underneath (see images) "G.E Ohr, Biloxi Miss." indicating a date of 1895 as is documented in the reference book "Mad Potter oif Biloxi" on page 78. This was George Ohr's period of thin walled vessels and "Biloxi bisque". The bank resembles a bag of money and reveals the coin slot on the side, beneath and between a "fold". One of the reasons this bank is so rare is, that to remove the coins the bank had to be broken; not to mention, having been made of pottery, it was prone to breakage over time, regardless. Also of note, there are no two George Orr...

Two Antique Niger Bura Peoples Fired Clay Heads on Stands
Located in Morristown, NJ
Bura fired clay heads, possibly 3rd-10th c. CE, Niger, Bura peoples. These are very expressive examples on custom mounts, the larger with manganese deposits. Between the 3rd and 10th centuries, the dead were laid to rest at a site in present-day Niger downstream from the Inland Niger delta. The burial ground’s density and expanse suggest a veritable city of the departed. Several hundred individual graves were marked by upturned pottery urns, some of which were cylinders topped by figurative imagery. The most elaborate of these were full-bodied equestrians, while the most basic were highly abstract, independent heads. Note: These figures will be professionally packed by a specialist shipper at the sellers expense. Dimensions: 11.25"h x 6.75"w x 3"d and 8"h x 3.75"w (incl. stands) Condition: Good, wear consistent with age and materials Provenance: Acquired by the present owner from Dr. David Rilling, 1990s. Talavera Mural Azulejo Tile Folk Contemporary Mexican Ceramic Blue White Mosaic
Located in Queretaro, Queretaro
This contemporary azulejo tile forms a mosaic perfect for kitchen decorations or any exterior space. Made with the Talavera technique. Artist, Cesar Torres portraits the colonial art of Mexico, but this time with a contemporary touch. This wall decoration can be arranged to fit specific spaces or simply hanged as a painting on the wall. The Talavera is not just a simple painted ceramic: its exquisite decoration is the product of a delicate process of alchemy that translates into fine enamels. In Puebla, Mexico few people still produce using Talavera with the ancestral techniques. One of those few is Cesar Torres, Don Cesar learned his art in the workshop of the Uriarte family, an excellent workshop where his grandfather worked. In his creations he uses the black and white mud that is obtained from the nearby hills of Loreto and Guadalupe, and colors of mineral origin that he creates in his workshop with recipes from his grandfather. All the pieces are modeled in a traditional way and go through a production process that usually takes from one to two months, between drying, burning, and painting. Being surrounded by a living tradition, Cesar Torres Jr., learned from his father since childhood. Architect by profession, Cesar Jr. has come to revolutionize and modernize with new designs and ideas of the current world, nevertheless always respecting the tradition of the processes and materials that make Talavera a Creole art...

Stan Bitters Signed Large Mid-Century Modern Ceramic Pottery Haniwa Sculpture
Located in Studio City, CA
A wonderful, unique, beautifully glazed, quite rare, and special double-faced "Haniwa" pottery sculpture by American California studio pottery master ceramists Stan Bitters whose work was instrumental in shaping the organic modernist movement in the 1960s. Bitters received his Bachelor of Arts degree in painting from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1958. He also studied under Peter Voulkos at Otis College. After graduating, he worked for Hans Sumpf as the company's resident artist. During this time he created architectural murals, tiles, birdhouses, planters, and sculptural objects – designs that would earn him recognition later on as a pioneer of the organic modernist craft movement - many still some of the most iconic designs today. Stan Bitters' work was featured as a part of the prestigious California Design series of exhibitions and annuals that chronicled art and design in California from 1954-1976. His works were also featured as part of a group show entitled Golden State of Craft 1960-1985 at the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles, CA. This show was part of Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980, an unprecedented collaboration of more than 60 museums and other cultural institutions in Southern California, celebrating the birth of the Los Angeles art scene. Bitters' work was also exhibited at Heath Ceramics' Boiler Room...
