This study for a portrait from figurative artist Amy Scherer, of her daughter in a bright orange collar with a vibrant blue background is an elegantly simple composition in oil paint on unstretched canvas. Although it's a study for another painting (also for sale on 1st Dibs) it has merit of it's own. It's gentle and loving with an angelic light. It's a classic example of Amy's use of color and redactive technique.

Scherer’s artistic development was deeply influenced by her mentorship under NW Master Painter William Cumming, whom she met at the Art Institute of Seattle in 1984. Cumming’s mentorship was pivotal in shaping her understanding of color theory, design principles, and the expressive potential of paint.
