Rachel Burgess makes autobiographical works on paper of landscapes and domestic scenes. Window-like in scale, her pieces combine elements of oil painting, folk art and commercial illustration, exploring our attempts to impose narratives on our lives. Attracted by the accessible, democratic nature of printmaking, she works primarily in monotype, straddling the divide between popular and elite forms of storytelling.

About the Artist:
Eunju Kang was born and raised in Daegu, Korea, and moved to California as a
teenager with her mom and two sisters in the 70s. Eunju was always an avid doodler,
often in her textbooks, which became a helpful communication tool as she adjusted to
her new life. Since the early 90s, Eunju has lived and worked in NYC, painting,
printmaking, and turning her doodles into a successful business with her sisters.
Eunju earned fine art degrees at UC Santa Barbara and Pasadena Art Center College
of Design where she graduated with distinction. She has been awarded residencies at
The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown (FAWC), the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the Vermont Studio Center. She has taught at the L.A. County High School for the Arts, the ArtCenter College of Design, and the School of Visual Art in NYC. Her fine art is in private collections around the world, and her illustration work has been used in packaging and ad campaigns by Godiva Chocolate...

Noted artist and sculptor, Dr. Rene Shapshak was born in Paris, studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris (that produced such giants as Claude Monet and Pierre Renoir), London, Bruxelles, emigrated to South Africa in 1932 or 1934, lived in Johannesburg (47 Saunders Street, Yeoville - where he held art classes for many years), executed numerous commissions, was committee member of the Transvaal Art Society, Johannesburg, 1937; left for the USA in 1954, his wife Eugenie and sons Leon, Maurice and Paul followed in August, 1955, the family staying for years at the famous Chelsea Hotel, with an atelier nearby at 219 7th Ave cor. 23rd St, New York NY. He showed there in a number of exhibits and was a denizen of the hotel along with many other famous artists. The Hotel has collected and displayed the work of many visual artists including Jackson Pollack, Larry Rivers, Christo, John Sloan, Arman, Francisco Clemente, Ralph Gibson, Rene Shapshak, Robert Mapplethorpe, Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Robert Crumb, Jasper Johns, Claes Oldenburg, Willem De Koonig, and Henri Cartier- Bresson.
Dr. Shapshak had become a world-renowned artist and sculptor, bringing his artistic and cultural contributions to many countries. His art is represented in Buckingham Palace, in the Rothschild, Schiff and Schonegevel Collections in England and Athens, Greece and in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Monica DeSalvo’s “Threshold” is an 18 x 24 inch surreal mixed media collage comprised of a red and orange acrylic monotype on felt textured paper with cut-out leaf forms, and an abstract collage on cream ledger paper with black distressed writing, brown, gray, and gold. A cluster of images with lily pads connects the two halves. Collage elements include DeSalvo’s late father’s paper memorabilia such as the ledger paper, black and white cavalry horses, and legs sitting in a chair.
