Born in Italy, this California Post-Impressionist came to the United States at the age of one. Georgetti first worked as a merchant seaman to support his art studies and traveled all over the world accumulating sketches, many of which he later worked up into paintings. He made frequent visits to France, where he was influenced by the Post-Impressionists and, particularly, by the Nabis. An innovative theorist, Georgetti was the originator of the style known as California Fauvism. Coming from a western tradition in Wyoming, John Maxon developed an expansive view of nature and the spiritual essence it imbued. Moving eventually to the San Francisco Bay area, John’s delight in the effects of light and color led him to the decision to become an artist at the young age of 15. His natural ability was encouraged and, at 16, he began figurative art classes with Howard Brodie.
Maxon spent his youthful days painting seriously in the fields behind Stanford University, and was fortunate to be exposed to and to study the works of Nathan Oliviera, Wayne Thiebaud and David Park during those years. He attended San Jose State University, and apprenticed for Sam Richardson...

About the Artist:
Wilma Fiori (Wilma Denny) was born in Youngstown Ohio in 1929 and was raised in Great Bend, Kansas. She studied at Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colorado. Fiori graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in 1952. Two years later, she married Bob Fiori, a fellow student from Lorreto Heights. She remained active as an alumna for the College while raising four children. During this time, she developed an interest in anthropology and, in 1979, Wilma earned a Masters of Arts in Anthropology degree from the University of Denver.
