Wilson Bigaud is an idea artist in who showcases visual ideas in many of his paintings. In this work, a married Haitian couple tunes their radios in sync as they lie in bed. Bigaud was greatly interested in radios, which appeared in many of his works. This work rises to the level of Surrealism in that Bigaud is doing more than just depicting a normal bedroom moment. There is something very strange and bizarre in the couple's synchronized actions. Also of note, it looks like the woman is swallowing the edge of the radio. The son of an English father and a Dutch mother, Harry Leith-Ross was born in the British Colony of Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean a thousand miles off the southeast coast of Africa. His first formal art instruction began in England under Stanhope Forbes, followed by studies with Jean Paul Laurens at the Academie Julian in Paris. Leith-Ross came to the United States to enroll at the National Academy of Design in New York City in 1910, and then to Woodstock, in 1913. It was in Woodstock at the Art Students League, under the tutelage of Birge Harrison and John F. Carlson, that Leith-Ross would receive the training that most influenced his career as an artist.
There he formed a lifelong friendship with fellow artist, John Folinsbee. The two artists shared a studio during this time and participated in several joint exhibitions exclusively featuring their work, including an exhibit at the Louis...

Fred Balshaw was a prolific and versatile genre painter of landscapes, figures and portraits who was born in 1860 in Bolton, Lancashire, the son of Joseph and Sarah, nee Haslam. He appeared on the 1881 census as living in Little Bolton and was described as a general clerk in the county court. In the 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses he was still in Bolton, but his occupation was given as artist.
In 1884 he was a founder member of the Blackpool Sketching Club and a member of the Fylde Art Society and Sketching Club, becoming its Honorary Secretary in 1926. He was also President of Blackpool Art Society in 1930.
Balshaw was a regular exhibitor between 1888 and 1914, mostly in the North of England, including Manchester, Rochdale and Bolton, where his painting A Fylde Farm was shown in 1908. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy.
The Lytham St Annes Art Society archive file for 1923 shows Balshaw exhibiting 10 artworks in their 7th Annual Exhibition. The 1925 Annual Exhibition records that he exhibited nine works and also details a contribution by Mrs Balshaw entitled 'A Bazaar Costume Portrait'.
Bolton Library and Museum Services stated that:
'From 1897 Bolton Council began to buy a small number of works by contemporary British artists (often from the North West) usually from summer exhibitions of “modern paintings” held at Mere Hall...

Peter Sculthorpe was born in Ontario, Canada, in 1948. His talent was evident even as a child and developed rapidly in high school, where he was awarded an art scholarship in his senior year. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Hussian School of Fine Art under William Palmer Lear. He is a recipient of the Daisy Jamison Art Scholarship.
Sculthorpe's work is represented in private and corporate collections including General Electric, AT&T, DuPont, and Nabisco.
