Mixed Media Oil Painting and Spray Paint Abstract Painting Selbstportrait
By Kadar Brock
Located in Surfside, FL
"Selbstportrait Und Der Sonne" This work is part of a series of alligator paintings Brock made in 2007. All are painted in a somewhat similar and brash style, and are based on an incredibly vivid dream of an albino alligator with sunglasses. There were about ten in the series. Most were traded away to other artists, though one larger one was purchased from a gallery exhibition with the now defunct Buia Gallery in 2008. Kadar Brock (born May 28, 1980) is a casualist artist. He graduated in 2002 with a BFA from Cooper Union School of Art in New York City. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Brock’s work has been reviewed in The New York Times, The Village Voice, Artforum, Bomb Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, Interview Magazine, White Hot Magazine and Dazed and Confused, W Magazine, Bloomberg News, and Cultured Magazine. Brock first creates relatively conventional large abstract paintings, which one commentator describes as "happy". These are then "negated and disenchanted" by a long process including adding layers, scraping, puncturing, and slicing. The results of this process are what Brock exhibits. He also incorporates fragments of such canvasses into the surfaces of other works. W Magazine wrote that Brock was "... best known for his unorthodox approach to abstract painting, in which he creates frenetic, gestural images and then renders them unrecognizable with the help of a razor blade and a power sander." Marina Cashdan wrote: "His studio is an ecosystem—and an efficient one—in which the artist’s methodical and ritualistic process makes for a consistent upcycling of materials across the space: when he spray-paints, he uses a canvas as the drop cloth; that canvas becomes the start of a painting; and that painting has two fates: one sliding door is going under the razor and the industrial sander, before being coated with layers of pigments and primed, sanded, and primed, a process repeated until the desired effect is reached; the other fate is to be martyred into chips or dust." Stephan Cox, in Hunted Projects: In Dialogue wrote: "What’s fascinating is that Brock’s works are the product of an artist who aims to demystify the gesture in painting through creating rituals that in effect eradicate the didactic artist-viewer scenario. Brock doesn’t aim to create works that are easily read as being a by-product of an artist’s expression; Brock has created a set of rituals, a rolling of dice, where he, in effect has his actions directed for him. This could be through the number of brush strokes to apply or the number of cuts to make, in all, his intuitive approach to painting is not present or discernible to the viewer." In Kadar Brock’s large-scale abstract paintings, a discordant combination of techniques, styles, and colors comes together in clashing tension. By turns described as a post-graffiti and “casualist” artist, Brock riffs on the history of abstraction, employing old tropes and marshalling simple patterns and crude geometric forms into his works, while also inviting an element of chance to determine his markings. He has explored the loose, gestural, and expressive idea of abstraction in the works of German painters like Albert Oehlen and Gerhard Richter, and He has been known to roll a Dungeons & Dragons dice to dictate marks in his paintings according to the die’s symbols and numbers. In repetitive compositions, Brock allows accidents in their production (such as heavy downward paint drips) to differentiate. In 2013, Brock had his breakout solo show in New York, at The Hole, entitled “dredge.” The entire main gallery space was filled with new paintings. The show very quickly sold out. He has exhibited at galleries internationally, with solo shows at Vigo Gallery...

Fresco. 2001, canvas, mixed media, 46x38 cm
Located in Riga, LV
Fresco. 2001, canvas, mixed media, 46x38 cm Ieva Iltnere (b. 1957) entered the Latvian art scene in the early 1980s. Together with other young painters of her generation she attracted much attention and radically changed prevailing conceptions about the Latvian figural painting. The fame of this generation of artists has not diminished since that time. In 1988 Ieva Iltnere took part in the young artists’ exhibition “Post-Traditionalism” at the Central Artists’ House in Moscow as well as in the exhibition “Riga – Lettische Avantgarde” at the Staatliche Kunsthalle in Berlin. It was the first important show of Latvian avant-garde art in Western Europe. In 1990 Ieva Iltnere and her like-minded contemporaries participated in the famous exhibition-action “Gentle Fluctuations” at the Exhibition Hall Latvija in Riga. This exhibition encouraged radical aspirations of the young painters’ group and promoted the adoption of new influences in Latvian art. In 1992 there was Ieva Iltnere and Jānis Mitrēvics’ joint exhibition “Works” and in 1994 – her solo exhibition “School” at the Art Museum Arsenāls. She took part in important Latvian art exhibitions at the Zvolle City Museum (2002), Frauen Museum in Bonn (1992), Grand Salle de l’Aubette in Strasbourg, Maison du Danemark in Paris (1997), Städtische Galerie im Buntentor in Bremen, etc. Ieva Iltnere is one of the most outstanding and creative artists of her generation. Her art is able to communicate great, significant ideas, important to both the individual and the society in general, through intimate subject matter. Iltnere has created a particular imagery that clearly marks her individual style. Her early works deal with themes of family, mother and child, depiction of intimate aspects of life. The artist raised everyday phenomena to the level of sacredness. Today the artist synthesizes traditional means of painting and conceptual approach, inspired by different cultures, Western avant-garde art of the 20th century and Biblical themes (solo exhibition “Stories”, 2002). Iltnere’s paintings feature subdued colouring and discrete intonation. The artist pays particular attention to light and composition. Each work is endowed with a personal touch. Iltnere’s works are found in collections of the Latvian National Museum of Art (previous title - State Museum of Art), the Artists’ Union of Latvia Museum (Riga), the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), Ludwig Museum (Aachen, Germany), Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum (New Jersey, USA) as well as in private collections in Latvia and abroad. Selected solo exhibitions: 2008 "Beautiful fragile nature", Riga Gallery, Riga / Latvia 2007 "Eight Rooms", Riga Gallery, Riga / Latvia 2004 "The Happy Childhood", Riga Gallery, Riga / Latvia 2003 "Ieva's Painting", Gallery NoMi, St. Petersburg / Russia "My Room", Gallery Centrs, Riga / Latvia 2002 "Stories", Riga Gallery, Riga / Latvia* 2001 "Ieva Iltnere's United Images", Gallery Daugava, Riga / Latvia 1999 "Papers and Canvases", Gallery Daugava, Riga / Latvia 1998 "Paintings of Paris", Gallery Daugava, Riga / Latvia 1997 "Oil", Gallery Bastejs, Riga / Latvia 1994 "School", Art Museum Arsenāls, Riga / Latvia* 1993 Riga Gallery, Riga / Latvia Gallery G&G, Riga / Latvia* 1992 "Works", Art Museum Arsenāls, Riga / Latvia (together with Jānis Mitrēvics)* "Four New Paintings", Gallery Kolonna, Riga / Latvia 1989 Gallery Baltasar, Gothenburg / Sweden (together with Ivars Poikāns)* Selected group exhibitions: 2008 12th International Contemporary Art Exhibition "Art Moscow", Central House of Artists, Moscow / Russia* Rauma Biennale Balticum 08 "Flower Power", Rauman Taidemuseo, Rauma Art Museum/ Finland 2007 11th International Contemporary Art Exhibition "Art Moscow", Central House of Artists, Moscow / Russia* 2005 9th International Contemporary Art Exhibition "Art Moscow", Central House of Artists, Moscow / Russia* 2004 8th International Contemporary Art Exhibition "Art Moscow", Central House of Artists, Moscow / Russia* "The Rape of Europe", Eskilstuna Art Museum, Eskilstuna / Sweden* 2003 "Labyrinth", Gallery Vartai, Vilnius / Lithuania...

Untitled, Acrylic on Canvas by Contemporary Indian Artist "In Stock"
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Birendra Pani - Untitled - 66 x 42 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas ** Will be delivered in rolled form. Should you want the work in ready to hand condition please contact gallery for extra freight calculation. In this series of works - “Boy - Dancer”, Gallery Kolkata revisits the artists very popular and well lauded ‘Boy Dancer’ suite of paintings on the plight of traditional Gopitua dancers from his native land, Odisha. The boy dancers who perform a devotional dance ritual are quickly declining in today’s cosmopolitan world. Pani entwines his empathy for the dying art with an opinion on our post-Modern era. In that respect, Pani does not try to create nostalgia for the decline in the taste for the dancers, instead he problematizes the issue by bringing in a dispassionate view of the issue. The ten canvases on display in this exhibition, features the Gopitua Dancers in different situations. The canvases are a hyper-real portrait, far & close shots of a Gopitua Dancers with liquid innocent eyes and a small smile playing upon his lips as he confronts the viewer. The blade is a recurring motif in Pani’s work and it has multiple functions and meanings. In this instance its meaning is rather clear — one where modernity eclipses tradition. Style : His fresh, perspective and contemporary canvases have loud and vivid images and use colors like green and shocking pink unashamedly. Pani says his works are preoccupied with exploring contemporary materials, culture and current lives of people, the negligence of local places, their culture, history, memory and their identity in present times. Further he feels the consumerist attitude has penetrated deep into the human psyche. Human beings are being consumed by the commodity rather than them consuming it. In his works, Pani explore the struggles, contradictions, dichotomies and critical reflections of the embodied selves with changes in value, knowledge and culture in our present society. “I have extensively used body parts like brain, heart and other organs, and everyday objects like capsule, syringe, blade etc to create a new visual language. Deriving from life experiences, my idea is to create a new vision by the juxtaposition of the above experience with the rich legacy, diverse visual culture and sensibility of the vast tradition of Odisha’s miniatures and Pata paintings, stone carvings, monumental visuals of temples and dance forms like Gopitua dance and Chhau-dance in Odisha.” Pani, thus attempts to create a new phenomenology and the reinvention of ‘self’ in a globalized and yet very localized world. Flight II. Amy Johnson. Surrealistic portrait of pioneering British aviator
By Tom Adams
Located in Segovia, ES
Amy Johnson CBE: Ordre de l'Empire britannique (1903-1941) was one of the most influential and inspirational woman of the twentieth century. She was the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia in 1930 and set a string of other records throughout her career. Even The Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie, had been sufficiently impressed by Amy's achievement in flying solo to Australia. Althought Christie didn't name her directly, it was clearly Amy that her character was referring to in the novel « Peril at End House ». The book features Christie's famous character Hercule Poirot. In this painting Tom Adams use the technique of collage. Dimension with frame 89 cm H x 102 cm W x 7 cm D Dimension without frame 64 cm H x 87 cm W About the artist: Thomas Barclay Adams was born in Providence, Rhode Island, U.S.A. to a family of distinguished architects and planners. He was trained at the Chelsea School of Art and Goldsmith's College between 1946-1950. In 1949 he received a National Diploma of Painting. Between 1953-60 Adams illustrated natural and Regimental history pages for Eagle and natural history features for Eagle, Girl and Swift. In 1958 he founded Adams Design Associates with Anna and Andy Garnett, where he produced large murals in the then-new medium of laminated plastic for various firms such as The Royal Bank of Scotland, Chartered Bank, Aspro Nicholas and Airscrew Jiewood. In 1960 Adams Design Associates became DANAD Designs with a group of architects and designers. In 1965 Adams joined his father, the late James W.R. Adams OBE, eminent town planner and landscape architect, who was planning and design consultant to the Poster Advertising Planning Committee, for whom he helped produce a book: "Posters Look to the Future". He mounted an exhibition at the Tea Center in Regent Street opened by Sir Hugh Casson in 1966. During this period, Adams met Virgil Pomfret and joined his artists' agency. Apart from a few gaps when pursuing other activities (like running art galleries), Adams has been with Pomfret ever since. With Virgil's representation, Adams began a career as a book cover illustrator, most notably for the early John Fowles' novels The Collector, The Magus and The French Lieutenant's Woman (Cape) and the now famous paperpack covers for Agatha Christie (Collins UK and Simon & Schuster USA). This period covered 1963-1975. A book on these cover paintings, with commentary by Julian Symons and an introduction by John Fowles was published in 1981 by Dragons World. Adams has won various awards for illustration, notably the American Society of Illustrators, The American Art Directors Association, and The Design and Art Directors Association, UK. In 1967 Adams opened the Fulham Gallery, which not only gave first exhibitions of some now famous artists, but was for several years the center of the late '60's phenomenon - the poetry print. With C.Day-Lewis (the Poet Laureate) and artist Joseph Herman and John Piper, Adams produced the investiture print for the Prince of Wales. Adams also designed posters for Mark Boyle's light shows (The Sensual Laboratory), going on tour with The Jimmy Hendrix Experience and The Soft Machine. His connection with the modern world of rock music continued when he met Lou Reed, an admirer of his Christie and Raymond Chandler covers. Reed asked Adams to design the cover for his first UK solo album. As a result of this friendship with Lou Reed, Andy Warhol offered to sponsor an exhibition of Tom's work in New York. Adams did eventually work in the States in the early 70's where he was asked by Marshall Arisman to teach at the New York Central School of Art. Around this time, having completed a private commission to paint a portrait of Benjamin Britten...

The rain child #8 - Emmanuelle Messika, 21st Century, Figurative painting
Located in Paris, FR
Acrylic paint on canvas Signed Artist’s statement : "Painting, for me, is an expressive endeavor in which one depicts the evolution of the various facets of the artistic self. There is, on each canvas, a tension where violence and stillness naturally coexist. By playing with different materials, I seek to establish a sort of unexpected dialogue between these states, and aspire to express this tension through profusion of color. The canvas is the stage that allows me to unite narration with the action of painting the fantastic—even the outrageous---and the everyday. I develop scenarios borrowed from the imagination, which join fantasy, even fables, with the everyday. Pulling threads from each domain, I bring together the mythical and the quotidian, so that the worlds of reality and fantasy merge. I rely on “creatures,” improbable little characters that could exist in some other realm or dimension. They materialize, issuing forth from the surprising, unbelievable and wondrous world of childhood. Human or animal, both find themselves entangled in inextricable and melancholic situations. These inextricable situations create distance; the humor comes through this breach. It is the absurdity of their predicaments that manifests the humor in the work. In each of my paintings, the sentiments are heightened by an intentional, provocative tone that transforms the work. An Otherness is attributed to objects; objects become personified, and by their very presence, they become witnesses or guinea pigs torn between and bound to their dilemma. The titles of my paintings, whether invented or quotations taken out of context, come from literature, theater, or song lyrics. Accident and chance are often major actors in my work.” Emmanuelle Messika BIOGRAPHY : Emmanuelle Messika was born in France in 1979. She works and lives in Paris.
