Japanese Red Patinated Bronze Vase by Nakajima Yasumi II 二代中島保美

About the Item

Exceptionally shaped bronze vase with a striking ‘coarse’-textured red mottled patina. The bowl subtly shaped like a flower, its slightly concave body flanked by ‘butterfly wing’-shaped ears, transcending in a circular foot with a broad shoulder. Sealed at the bottom by the artist Nakajima Yasumi II (1905-1986). Three generations of the Yasumi family were active in Osaka as metal artists, their vases favoured the richly coloured purple-red bronze. The vast majority of ‘Yasumi’-vases are designed and made by the incredibly creative and versatile second generation of the family. He was a member of the All Japan Decorative Art Association and regularly exhibited at the annual Japan art exhibition Nitten, where he was awarded several prizes. Weight: 4.94 lb/2242 gram. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity. Price including insured shipping.
