Trade Team - Director of Outside Sales

We are looking for a strong leader to oversee a team of Strategic Account Executives. Our Strategic Account Executives are responsible for growing the annual spend of their assigned clients, which will consist of 1stdibs’ key design firms across the country. The Strategic Account Executives are working with our top 1% of design firms and will have a small book of names accounts that they will build key relationships with. We're looking for a Director of outside sales to hire, train, manage, and lead this team. 

This individual is responsible for building the initial playbook of this new team. They will help the team build relationships with several key personas within their account list including principal designers, junior designers, design directors, creative leads, and various members of purchasing and procurement teams.

 

What you’ll do

  • Motivate and lead a team of strategic account executives to meet and exceed team goals; which include monthly revenue targets, volume of new members, and execution of sales tactics
  • Train team members on best practice sales techniques and messages, and develop processes to reinforce them (including the use of Salesforce) to exceed sales goals
  • Own and report on results to GM and executive team; including planning, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Support annual business planning process; including development of go-to-market business plan, territory and quota planning, and operational plan for sales teams
  • Develop plans and strategies for developing business and achieving the company’s sales goals
  • Define and coordinate sales training programs that enable staff to achieve their potential and support company sales objectives
  • Travel for in-person meetings with customers and partners and to develop key relationships
  • Determine and execute how to segment accounts and to assign them to team members to maximize results

     

What you’ll bring

  • 4-6 years experience in an Outside Sales leadership role with within a rapidly-scaling digital/e-commerce company and 3+ years managing a team of at least 20
  • Firm understanding of the online shopping experience
  • Comfort using Salesforce for tracking, reporting, and decision-making
  • Ability to navigate and make decisions in ambiguous, fast-paced environments with limited time and oversight
  • Innate drive to succeed and make the team successful exemplified through a track record of exceeding sales goals
  • An analytical and data-driven mind applied to setting goals and also making decisions about people and performance
  • Conviction and resilience; doesn’t shrink in the face of adversity, but rather, welcomes it
  • Executive-level written and verbal communication skills: concise, to the point, with clear asks and proposed next steps
  • Ability to ruthlessly prioritize and multitask, comfort with allocating time/resources to the most essential drivers of growth
  • Background/interest in decorative arts/design strongly preferred
