Wilhelm Kage, "Farsta" Red Brown Bowl, the Gustavsberg Manufactory, Sweden, 1955

About the Item

Wilhelm Kage, "Farsta" Red Brown mat glazed footed bowl with line design, The Gustavsberg Manufactory, Sweden 1955 Impressed "Farsta" Four times to feet, "Gustavsberg G (hand) Studio" Incised "Z", "KÅGE This is a A large bowl with four high legs and a line pattern scraped off and painted on the entire surface of the bowl by Wilhelm Kåge, a master potter at the Gustavsberg Porcelain manufactory in Sweden. The ochre-colored base is coated with a brick-reddish brown glaze. The inside of the bowl is carved with radial line scrapings, and the rim is carved with a petal pattern. It is also painted with blue glaze. The underside of the bowl is finely decorated with dotted patterns. The rusty reddish-brown look is the result of the process of applying glaze over and over, allowing it to dry, sanding it with sandpaper, and applying another layer of glaze. It is in very good condition. The vessel has been examined by an expert by UV light and visual inspection to ensure that there are no repairs and that it is not twice kiln fired.
