Connant Ball Revival 5 Drawer Low Chest Nice Legs
Located in Fraser, MI
Connant Ball 5 drawer chest. American Revival circa 1935. These legs are really lovely. The chest appears to have had a faux bird's-eye finish. The finish on the top is not perfect. The overall patina is pretty nice. We can lightly refinish the top if you specify at time of check-out. The front has some light spots in the faux finish which seem to be part of the character.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
Historical Note:
Sort of curious that this is made by Connant Ball, a company pivotal to the advancement of American Modern Design in the mid 20th century. After the Century of Progress Worlds Fair in Chicago, Connant Ball contracted Russell Wright to design a branded line of blonde sold panel furniture (c.1935). The Russell Wright for Connant Ball line was an early bubble example of Desginer branded marketing for Furniture; American Modern furniture. After WWII the company contracted the gentleman Leslie Diamond to design a broader line of modern furniture in blonde solid panel construction (c.1947). Connant Ball did not initiate ad campaigns for designer branded furniture with Leslie Diamond, as they did with the Russel Wright furniture...

Bas van Pelt Set of Six Dining Chairs for My Home, The Netherlands, 1930s
By Bas Van Pelt
Located in Utrecht, NL
These rare dining chairs from Dutch designer, Bas van Pelt, are testimonies to the less talked about, but brilliant era of early Dutch modernism. Van Pelt’s designs were only produced when an order was placed, therefore the numbers of the models are very small.
The construction of these rare 1930s dining chairs is simple at its core, but thanks to the details, it is a playful representation of early Dutch modernism. While Bas Van Pelt's creative work was primarily influenced by the 1920s’ straight lines dominated by The Hague School, this set of chairs is the result of his more mature design era, which was primarily dominated by natural materials and more curvature. These handcrafted chairs have a solid oak frame and a distinctive backrest comprised of oak spindles. While made of solid oak, the design has an open feel to it thanks to the vertical and open spaces on the back and the structure of the legs. The slightly curved line of the backrest’s top nicely contrast with the straight lines of the frame, and show wonderful craftsmanship. The upholstered seat adds textural interest, complementing the oak’s beautiful colour. Thanks to the well-chosen proportions and the expert craftsmanship, these chairs are top-notch both visually and technically. Placed next to each other, their appearance is enhanced even further.
Bas van Pelt’s progressive designs were, in many ways, ahead of his era. The Dordrecht-born designer’s furniture models are quite rare, a few are preserved in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam for Modern Art, Contemporary Art, and Design.
Condition:
In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Some minor scratches on the wood. The seats have been reupholstered recently in a premium fabric. Each of our items can be re-upholstered by our in-house atelier in a fabric of choice. Please reach out for more information.
Dimensions:
19.68 in W x 21.65 in D x 37.79 in H; Seat height 18.89 in
50 cm W x 55 cm D x 96 cm H; Seat height 48 cm
About the Designer:
Bas Van Pelt (1900 Dordrecht (NL) - 1945 Sandbostel (DE)) was a well-known Dutch interior and furniture designer, known for the clarity and quality of his designs. His works created in the 1930s and 1940s are regarded for their progressive design and quality.
While he is most well-known for his chair designs, van Pelt was also active as an interior designer. He also designed fabrics for window...

Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Tazza Compote 263B, Grape Motif
By Georg Jensen
Located in Cincinnati, OH
Vintage Georg Jensen sterling silver tazza compote with grape motif. This fabulous Georg Jensen sterling silver tazza features Jensen's iconic grape motif, a celebrated range of pieces which were inspired by the Art Nouveau aesthetic coupled with time the artist spent traveling in Italy.
Georg Jensen was born in 1866 and trained as a sculptor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1892. Jensen began his artistic career in ceramics and started working with silver in 1904. He went on to establish his own smithy in Copenhagen and like many others working during the Art Nouveau period, was strongly influenced by natural forms and structure found in flowers and plants.
As mentioned above, Jensen spent time in Italy shortly after the turn of the century and developed an appreciation for ancient Roman silver work. He was also struck by the work of more recent Italian artists and was particularly influenced by those pieces which drew upon classical mythology, such as Baroque painter Caravaggio's 'Bacchus'. Jensen combined these influences with emerging Art Nouveau organic motifs, leading him to utilize the malleable qualities of silver to create his renowned Grape Collection.
This form of this silver tazza was initially designed by Jensen in 1918. The piece has a round pedestal foot which rises to a thick columnar stem reminiscent of the twisting trunk...
