Andy Warhol/Jean Michel Basquiat: Original Paintings Exhibition Poster, 1985: 'Palladium Presents Warhol and Basquiat'.
The rare original, highly sought-after companion piece to the iconic exhibition poster of the two great artists standing side by side in boxing gloves. This version was issued for an invitation only, one-night event at the Palladium following the exhibit at Shafrazi gallery. Only a limited amount were printed and more importantly, survived in decent shape. This work is by far one of the rarest Basquiat/Warhol collectibles of all and even more difficult to find intact & well-preserved as presented here. Photo credit: Michael Halsband.
Offset lithograph on wove paper. original 1st (and only authorized) printing, 1985.
Dimensions: 11 x 17 inches.
Condition: Quattro fold-lines as originally issued; mild surface creasing; minor signs of handling; minor age related wear to fold lines as commensurate with the history of this work; in otherwise good overall vintage overall condition with well preserved colors.
Unsigned from an edition of unknown; few survived in decent condition.

Tony Shafrazi, November 2015: "My good friend, the Swiss gallerist Bruno Bischofberger, had worked with Andy Warhol since the mid 1960s. He got to know Jean-Michel’s paintings and started working with him in 1982 or ’83. There had been a suggestion of a collaboration between Warhol, Basquiat, and Francesco Clemente. Then, Jean-Michel and Andy, very enthusiastically and seriously, went on to undertake a whole processes of painting collaboratively at Warhol’s Factory for a year to a year and half, making somewhere between 70 and 80 large paintings that represented an extraordinary—and very rare in history—body of work.
Their joint body of work represented a whole year and half of collaboration and production. It was not an overnight thing. The two artists worked together, one painting over the other, back and forth, and I immediately thought of two people sparring and boxing together, which is how I hit upon the idea of a boxing theme for the show’s advertisement."
The full title of the poster is: "Palladium Presents Warhol Basquiat Paintings, Saturday September 14 1985, 10 PM, Palladium, 126 East 14 Street, Exhibition at Tony Shafrazi Gallery, Complimentary Admission for Two."
On the Palladium:
Palladium was built as a deluxe movie theater by move mogul William Fox in 1927. Beginning in 1971 it was also utilized as a concert venue, then later converted into a nightclub in 1985 by Steve Rubell of Studio 54.

Michael Halsband
Né et élevé à New York, Michael Halsband a découvert la photographie à l'âge de 10 ans. Il a obtenu un B.F.A. de la School of Visual Arts en 1980 et a commencé à faire des portraits d'artistes et de musiciens, notamment son portrait le plus connu et le plus emblématique d'Andy Warhol et Jean-Michel Basquiat avec des gants de boxe. Parmi ses premiers projets, il a été pendant six mois le photographe des Rolling Stones lors de leur tournée "Tattoo You" en 1981, et a travaillé pendant six ans à la documentation de la School of American Ballet. En 2005, Michael a publié "Surf Book", une collection de ses portraits de surfeurs légendaires, et l'aboutissement d'un projet de cinq ans. Il a exposé dans le monde entier. Parmi les récentes expositions individuelles de Halsband, citons " Halsband Portraits ", en avril 2015 au National Arts Club, Grand Gallery à New York, et une rétrospective plus importante également intitulée " Halsband Portraits ", au Southampton Arts Center, NY, en novembre 2017. Michael a publié son deuxième livre, "Halsband Portraits", pour accompagner l'exposition du National Arts Club.
