These beautiful Mugler x H&M black ankle boots are the only footwear design created for the exclusive Limited Edition 2023 Mugler x H&M collaboration, a capsule that sold out worldwide within 20 minutes of its release. They stand as one of the defining pieces of the collection, embodying Mugler’s sculptural aesthetic and the collaboration’s archival inspiration.
In Mugler’s late 1970s - early 1980s collections, the house collaborated exclusively with Maud Frizon, one of the most influential shoe designers of the period. Many pieces from the H&M capsule were derived from the archives and re-invented for this modern reissue, making these boots a particularly significant collectible.
Although officially part of the men’s collection, these boots are a unisex classic statement piece and integrate seamlessly into any wardrobe. Constructed in supple black leather with glossy patent contrast, they feature a pointed toe, offset block heel, and a side zipper closure with silver-toned hardware and a Mugler-branded pull tab.

PROVENANCE & STYLE NOTES
Released in May 2023, the Mugler x H&M collaboration was a global phenomenon and remains one of the most celebrated designer x high street partnerships of the decade. Nearly every piece sold out within 20 minutes, and this pair, as the only footwear produced for the collection, holds a special place in the collaboration’s history.
Drawing inspiration from archival Mugler designs and Maud Frizon’s influential footwear collaborations, these boots represent Mugler’s futuristic silhouette reimagined for the contemporary era under Casey Cadwallader.
While not runway-documented to a Mugler couture collection, this piece is entirely consistent with Cadwallader’s modern Mugler aesthetic, defined by architectural lines, futuristic silhouettes, and unisex appeal. Released only in limited numbers as part of the short-lived collaboration, these boots are now increasingly difficult to source in this brand new condition.

A French fashion designer, creative director and creative adviser of Mugler.
In the 1970s, Mugler launched his eponymous fashion house; and quickly rose to prominence in the following decades for his avant-garde architectural, hyperfeminine and theatrical approach to haute couture.
He was one of the first designers to champion diversity in his runway shows, which often tackled racism and ageism, and incorporated non-traditional models such as drag queens, pornstars, and transgender women.
In 2002, he retired from the brand, and returned in 2013 as the creative adviser.
At the beginning of his career he designed signature looks for Michael Jackson, Madonna, Grace Jones, Duran Duran, Viktor Lazlo, David Bowie and Diana Ross; most notably Demi Moore's dress from the 1993 movie Indecent Proposal, which was once coined "the most famous dress of the 1990...
