Yoshitomo Nara Art
Japonais, b. 1959
L'artiste japonais Yoshitomo Nara est l'un des artistes les plus influents issus du mouvement Pop art du Japon dans les années 1990. S'inspirant des personnages d'anime et de manga auxquels il a été exposé pendant son enfance, Nara crée des personnages, généralement de petits enfants, qui possèdent des qualités cartoonesques similaires, avec des traits très stylisés et des yeux particulièrement grands. Cependant, les illustrations de Nara représentant des enfants, qui brandissent souvent des armes, sont souvent plus menaçantes et diaboliques qu'elles ne sont mignonnes et innocentes.
Nara a créé un véritable culte autour de ses illustrations enfantines, bien que les thèmes de son travail touchent à des sujets sociaux et culturels plus larges, tels que la violence et la rigidité des structures sociales au Japon. Bien qu'il travaille principalement en peinture et en dessin, il expérimente également en sculpture et des installations.
Depuis sa première exposition personnelle à la Blum and Poe Gallery en 1984, Nara a réalisé près de 40 expositions personnelles dans le monde entier, de l'Islande au Japon en passant par la France et les États-Unis.
