Tiny Regency Partridgewood Tea Caddy
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A charming and extremely rare Regency period 19th century partridge wood tea caddy, of incredibly small proportions, having elegant pagoda shaped top enclosing lined interior raised on original brass ball feet. This is one of the smallest tea caddies we have ever seen. It also really is very charming indeed. The shape has real elegance and the overall package is just so very rare. Partridge wood is a wood imported from South America towards the end of the 18th and early 19th centuries. Available in particularly small sheets it was almost exclusively used in cross banded, or inlaid decorations or for very small decorative boxes...

Georgian Mahogany Butlers Tray on Stand
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A good quality George III period mahogany oval butlers tray of panelled construction, having original brass hinges and pierced handles to folding sides, housed on later square leg mahogany stand. During the 18th and 19th centuries a coffee table was not what we regard as a coffee table in the 21st century. Coffee tables back then were always full height, effectively side tables. The modern, low, coffee table is really something which began to be seen during the early 20th century onwards. Based on the above there is a variety of different methods to incorporate a coffee table into an interior for people who wish to furnish their properties with genuine antique furniture, whilst still allowing for the practicalities and function which is required in modern times. Therefore as is now normal with by far the majority of these butlers trays which we see, due to the fact they make absolutely perfect coffee tables, this has been removed from its original, tall, folding stand at some point and fitted onto a lower, more practical and sturdy stand constructed from old antique wood. It's worth noting that generally this means an old broken table...

Georgian 18th Century Mahogany Chest with a Slide
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A very good quality mid 18th century chippendale period Georgian Mahogany chest, having well figured top over slide and four long drawers, retaining original brass swan neck handles, raised on elegant original shaped bracket feet. Whilst a relatively commonly found design and form for a Georgian Chest of this period, this particualr chest boasts some exceptional features which set it apart from many. These include the exceptional quality of construction, the use of the well figured, rich mahogany timbers and the practical dimensions. The colour and patina throughout remain excellent and overall it is in good condition with very little restoration, or damage of consequence to speak of. The retention of its original brass handles and its original bracket feet is another indicator of how well loved and cherished this item has been throughout the years of its life. Perfect for use in a variety of different rooms around the home this chest is incredibly functional and is still as fit for purpose as the day it was made. It’s even just about small enough to serve a purpose as a bedside table if required. We believe this chest is great value for something so beautiful which offers so much function and will go on to be used and utilised for many years to come by the eventual purchaser. As with all items we offer for sale this georgian mahogany chest has been examined in our workshops by our highly skilled, traditional antique furniture...

Georgian Satinwood Pembroke Table
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A very fine quality 18th century Georgian Sheraton period satinwood pembroke table having superbly figured two flap top, with attractive padouk wood crossbanded decoration, over one frieze drawer opposed by dummy drawer to reverse, retaining original brass handles, raised on elegant square tapering legs, terminating on original brass castors. Pembroke tables became one of the most popular pieces of furniture around the middle of the 18th century, owing largely to their versatility and their plethora of different functions. In fact George Hepplewhite himself actually described Pembroke tables as "the most useful of tables" and many references can be found to them in the literature of the time. People such as Jane Austen even described them being used for dining at, or for writing at, whilst there is even reference to them being used in other places around the house such as for ladies to sit and and carry out their embroidery. One thing that is certain is that the fact they are incredibly versatile even in todays world and can be used for many, many different purposes. The option of being able to use the two flaps to create significant variations in the size of the table top surface is certainly a popular and useful feature. This particular Georgian Satinwood...

Georgian Yew Wood Miniature Chest of Drawers
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A charming and rare 18th century Georgian yew wood miniature chest having four long drawers with original brass knobs raised on original shaped bracket feet. (There is often debate as to whether miniature furniture was made as an apprentice piece, which is when a craftsmen who is looking for a job at a workshop would create something to showcase their talents, or whether it was made as a travelling salesman's sample piece, which is when a few articles were made as scale models in advance of a road trip during which a salesman would travel the country showing prospective clients the kind of items they could produce back at the workshop and take orders from. This particular example doesn't really appear to quite fit either of those briefs however and may well have just been made as an individual, one off piece in a provincial workshop. One of the reasons for this is the construction from solid yewwood which is a rarely used material in items any larger than this as the trunks generally don't grow large enough. The overall quality is  excellent and clearly somebody has spent many, many hours  producing this wonderful piece. A really quite charming piece of antique miniature furniture...

Georgian 18th Century Mahogany Tea Caddy
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A Late 18th century Georgian Period Mahogany Oblong tea caddy having very attractive inlaid decoration to front and hinged top enclosing double lidded interior with original paper foil landing. This particular caddy is relatively plain and simple in design, but is lifted significantly with the attractive inlaid decoration. It remains in relatively good condition and had clearly been well loved throughout its life. Tea was a precious commodity throughout the 18th and 19th centuries and the purpose of a tea caddy was not just to preserve the and extend the life of the precious tea leaves, but also to enable the owner to lock away those aforementioned valuable tea leaves, keeping them safe from the house staffs potential wandering hands. This 18th century tea caddy...

Mahogany Double Wellington Chest
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A Very Good Quality Late 19th Century Mahogany Double Wellington Chest With Two Banks Of Six Drawers With Replacement Brass Knobs Flanked By Hinged Locking Pilaster To Each Side Raised On Original Plinth Base. The first Duke of Wellington, Arthur Wellesley, commissioned the first chest of this type, i.e. a tall bank of drawers secured by hinged locking pilasters to take with him and carry around various battlefields and that is where the name wellington chest comes from. It is now used to refer to almost any tall, narrow antique chest of drawers. By default this particular design of chest is therefore referred to as a double wellington chest. From around 1820 onwards they were manufactured in a huge variety of shapes and sizes, plus they varied a great deal in terms of both their quality and the wood which they are constructed from. This wellington chest is of a form rarely found in terms of its double bank of drawers...

Regency English Mahogany Antique Extending Dining Table
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A fine quality late regency period mahogany extending dining table retaining exceptional colour and patina to well figured top with two original removable leaves raised on elegant turned and fluted legs with superbly carved corner patrae & original brass castors (With a whole plethora of options available in terms of antique dining tables it can be an absolute mine field trying to decide which suits each individual purpose. This particular example is worth considering for a variety of reasons, not least the fantastical overall quality and excellent choice of timber selected. It also retains a good colour and patina. The extending design is of the full out type which is generally seen in the earlier Georgian and Regency versions, the wind out design more commonly seen is generally regarded as a Victorian and later feature. Another advantage of this design is that there is just the 4 corner legs which allow maximum flexibility in terms of chair and human leg...
