Lawrence Weiner Limited Edition Tattoo, ALL IN DUE COURSE, South London Gallery
By Lawrence Weiner
Located in Barcelona, Barcelona
Lawrence Weiner, ALL IN DUE COURSE, limited edition tattoo for the South London Gallery, 2014. Materials: Paper Tattoo Dimensions: W 10.5 cm x H 15 cm. Tattoo size: W 4 cm x H 9 cm. Born in 1942 in the Bronx, New York, Weiner lives and works in New York and Amsterdam. Internationally regarded, Weiner has an expansive following that reaches across several generations. Though recognised as one of the central figures pioneering conceptual art in the 1960s, he identifies himself not as a conceptualist but as a sculptor whose medium is “language + the materials referred to”. Since the 1970s Weiner has been best known for his striking wall ‘sculptures’. Mainly using paint or vinyl, his works carve walls with thought, presenting provocative texts that are open to interpretation by the viewer. Weiner has presented a number of projects and exhibitions across the UK since the early 1970s: at ICA, London; Pier Arts Centre, Orkney; The Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh; The Henry Moore Sculpture Trust, Halifax; Art Transpennine, Hull; Inverleith House in Edinburgh; several engagements with Bury Art Gallery, including their Text Festivals; a solo show at the National Maritime Museum, London; and occasional shows in commercial galleries, the most recent at Lisson Gallery in 2013. Weiner’s work is also represented in the Tate collection, including as part of ARTIST ROOMS. Vitrines in the SLG’s entrance corridor contain documentation from some of these events from Weiner’s past, including his association with Factory Records...

Etching Glyn Thomas Lighthouse Orford Ness Castle River Alde length
Located in BUNGAY, SUFFOLK
Glyn Thomas (b.1946) : Lighthouse, Orford Ness Etching. Artists proof from a limited edition of 150, signed and titled in pencil, f Depicting the lighthouse in the foreground, the Ministry of Defence buildings on the left and the River Alde and with the Castle and Church on the horizon. visible sheet length 46cm., 18",, height 29cm., 11.5" in the original mount and wooden frame length 63.5cm., 25" height 48cm.,19" The encroaching sea eventually got so close that the lighthouse had to go. Rather than simply let it fall into the sea, in July 2020 the entire building began to be carefully dismantled so as not to have any impact on the surrounding sensitive environment. The Orford Ness Lighthouse Trust plan at that time was to remove the lantern room as well as other original features and artefacts with a view to one day creating a lighthouse memorial of some sort on the other side of the Ness, facing Orford town’s quay. In the original pine slip frame height 48cm., 19" length 63cm., 24 1/2" ORFORD NESS Orford Ness is an internationally important site for nature conservation and a designated National Nature Reserve. It is a rare and delicate landscape, consisting of shingle ridges and valleys, deposited over centuries by the sea. 20% of Europe's vegetated shingle is found on Orford Ness. Once a former World War One and World War Two Airfield, the land is now a rich grazing marsh, providing home to birds, deer and rare-breed sheep. It is one of the few sites in the UK with purpose-built facilities for the testing of components of nuclear weapons. Comprising of six 'labs', which now form impressive backdrops on the shingle and the Black Beacon erected in 1928 to house an experimental rotating-loop navigation beacon. GLYNN THOMAS Glynn Thomas was born in Cambridge 1946. He studied at the Cambridge School of Art 1962-67, specialising in illustration and printmaking; taught printmaking at the Ipswich School of Art 1967-79, and is now a full-time artist living in Suffolk. He has illustrated a number of books. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and at the Society’s 1983 annual exhibition his etching ‘Honfleur’, was awarded the Davys’ prize for the best print. In addition, his work has been included in the Houses of Parliament art collection. One man exhibitions include the Dominion Centre Toronto, the John Russell Gallery, Ipswich, Printworks and the Minories, Colchester, the New Ashgate Gallery Farnham, the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, the Lyric Hammersmith, and the Barbican Centre London. Mixed exhibitions include the Cambridge Contemporary Art Gallery, the Adelphi Gallery New York, Donald Hughes, Hong Kong, the Royal Academy, the British Miniature...

Signed Naomi Campbell for Vivienne Westwood Large Format Polaroid Photo, 2008
By Vivienne Westwood
Located in London, GB
An original one-off large format Polaroid photograph of Naomi Campbell for the Vivienne Westwood Active Resistance limited edition book produced by Opus. Signed by Naomi Campbell and photographer Zenon Texeira in marker pen. Large-format polaroids are extremely rare and unique and as the name suggests, they are of a large scale, the visible image dimensions being 52 cm x 67 cm. It is an autographed and one-off, unreproducible photograph, as there is no negative. Large Format Polaroids: The Polaroid 20×24 camera is a very large instant camera made by Polaroid, with film plates that measure a nominal 20 by 24 inches. Throughout its history, it has been used by many famous photographers, including Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol. Ansel Adams also used the camera, notably to make the first official photographic Presidential portrait, of President Jimmy Carter in 1979. To celebrate Lady Gaga's new role as Creative Director of Polaroid, a portrait of her was shot with the 20×24 camera on June 30, 2010, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This is the actual one-off Large Format Polaroid Photo taken on one of three of these cameras in existence which are soon to be obsolete because no more of the photographic paper can be made. The rare Polaroid 20 x 24 camera was brought from Prague to Paris and London for three separate photo shoots for The Official Vivienne Westwood Opus. Featuring Vivienne Westwood’s family and friends wearing clothes from her stunning collections, 97 selected Polaroids, shot by Zenon Texeira in black-and-white, colour and sepia, are displayed in the Opus. Henry Coombes, Sculpture Entitled "Umbrella" 2005; Mixed Media B 1977
By Henry Coombes
Located in London, GB
Henry Coombes, British b.1977- "Umbrella" 2005; mixed media, oil paint on found umbrella, 84cm long, (ARR) Provenance: Purchased from Sorcha Dallas Gallery, Glasgow by the previous owner. Henry wrote: “The Umbrella was in my studio in 2005, being rainy Glasgow, I used it, left it open to dry. I was painting a series of oil paintings you can find on my website, ( oil painting section) Glen Golly, Ponker, Lady offering Cock to Fox. I loved what was happening on the pallet more than what was happening on the canvas. So the end of every day I would scrape it off and smear it on the umbrella. I am somewhat superstitious I believe in the notion of bad luck, I was afraid the open umbrella would upset the painting gods. So the ritual of putting the paint on the umbrella was to change into something new that would appease the spirits of bad luck, and bring good fortune to the painting. Paint is a fluid process will ultimately can not control, and if we try to hard it becomes dull illustration. I teach art in prison I see painting holding together the lives of life prisoners. I have huge faith in its power and same time I am humbled by it every time I go into the studio”. Henry Coombes’ distinctive art practice has received wide recognition since his graduation from Glasgow School of Art in 2002. He has a multi-disciplinary practice working in painting, collage, drawing, sculpture and film. Earlier film works like ‘Laddy and the Lady’ and ‘The Bedfords’ explored ideas of class, hierarchy, hunting for sport and Victorian...

Calibrated to Balance, hanging sculpture by Monica Guggisberg & Philip Baldwin
By Monica Guggisberg & Philip Baldwin
Located in London, GB
'Calibrated to Balance' is a unique red, green, yellow, teal and amber hand-blown and cut glass hanging artwork with steel frame by the American and Swiss artists, Philip Baldwin and Monica Guggisberg. Exquisitely handblown and cut to the highest quality and refinement, the elements have been composed and suspended on a steel frame ready for wall hanging. Increasingly the artists have become more sculptural in focus, while seeking to imbue their work with a deep connection to archetypal forms and shapes, and striving for the highest level of craftsmanship. They address eternal symbols of human culture and history, primarily through blown glass, but also using steel, and constructions in other materials. Baldwin (1947, New York) and Guggisberg (1955, Bern) have been a collaborative team for over forty years. They share an instinctive appreciation for the subtle blending of art and design, functionality and abstract expression, combined with a love of material – especially glass. The list of museums and collections which have acquired their works is long and impressive. Individual showings, as well as participation in group shows, have given them opportunities to present their works at leading galleries and in major museums in Europe, Japan and the United States and their works rank among the best to be found in the international glass art scene. Working freelance, they have also designed successful products for international glass manufacturers since 1985. Their clients have included renowned firms like Rosenthal, Steuben, Corning and Venini. Over time their work has developed its own distinctive signature, based in Italian cold-working (battuto) combined with the Swedish overlay process for layering colours. They have been pioneers in adapting these techniques and in creating a distinct expression of their own. Colour, light, texture, pattern, and shape together reveal an undercurrent of meaning and value, adhering to the simplest of forms and clear lines. Over the years they have become more sculptural in focus, while seeking to imbue their work with a deep connection to archetypal forms and shapes, and striving for the highest level of craftsmanship. They address eternal symbols of human culture and history, while embracing contemporary evolution in form and meaning. In recent years large installations and major exhibitions in public spaces, such as Canterbury Cathedral...
