About the Item

Wild Roses of Revolution is a drawing realized by Iranian Painter and Poet Parimah Avani in 2023. Sumi and Persian ink, and acrylic on traditional Lokta Hymalian paper "Nepali Kagaj". Hand-signed and dated. Excellent conditions. From the series "Resistance and Alchemical Metals" The artwork is represented by a poetic style and title, with the application of limited color of metals" various copper, gold, silver, bronze" have metaphorical features of alchemy. In this series the artist took positions, and gestures of revolutionary and rebellious bodies on the battlefield of revolution and transformed them dynamically into precious sources of resistance by spiritual transitions of colors akin to alchemy, meat, and blood found their symbolic meaning through colors and expressive brushstrokes, metals here refer to bodies of freedom seekers, shapable, flexible, shiny and a source of strength, that highlights how a body becomes a battlefield, a golden source of sacrifice, a silver font of resistance, copper as blood and women fighting for freedom.  The rebellious gestural figures here have an exclusive sense of narration harmoniously, delicate traditional Himalian paper makes her narration more vivid and emotional. The style of Persian calligraphy and knowledge of poetry let her make a visual poem in an expressionistic style, the use of space and maintaining an empty background and foreground intentionally have been made to emphasize the solitude and loneliness and the same time connect to oriental calligraphy. What makes this series unique: It is deeply behind the dynamic emotion of each gestural figure, rebellious figures represented in a minimalistic manner, and the vigorous and unbridled energy of brushstrokes, as raw, spontaneous, and emotionally charged.  Her works in this series challenge oppression, torture, censorship, and gender-related issues themes by applying oriental brushstrokes of calligraphy in ink as a primary tool, to fragile subjects. She portrays her Eastern identity through materials and techniques as a fundament, adding layers of today's socio-political concerns. In her Exhibition "Heroine's Journey" presented in the Sparkasse Plettenberg, Germany in 2023, she with the same approach successfully presented revolutionary and rebellious gestures by applying the same limited colors of alchemical metals. Parimah Avani, born in 1988 in Tehran, Iran, is a multidisciplinary artist and a recognized figure in contemporary hermetic Persian literature and the avant-garde "Other" movement. Her book, "Magic Verses of Antalus," was a finalist for the prestigious "Shamlou" Award. Her most recent achievement is winning an art competition for a scholarship from Werkstatt Plettenberg in Germany, culminating in a solo exhibition held at the Gallery of the German Bank of Sparkasse. Avani's artistic journey began with travels to China and Russia during her formative years, oriental philosophies, particularly Zen and Buddhism, and folk arts ignited her passion for comparative mythology evident in her archaic style. In 2009, she moved to Rome, Italy to study multimedia art, and gained a Master’s in painting at the Fine Art Academy of Rome. Immersed in cultural parallels between East and West, mythological themes transcend boundaries in art, exploring magic and ancient scripts inspired by the scholarly insights of Frazer and Eliade on rituals. Her anthropological view culminated in a Ph.D. in the history of contemporary art from Sapienza University, achieving excellence and honor. Her significant project, “Antalus," has led to published writings, performances, and visual art, —a multidimensional world-building endeavour that defies convention. Within the fictional lands of Antalus, she has constructed a diverse tapestry of cultures, and rituals by archaic representations, including imaginary alphabets, calendars, maps, fantasy creatures, and botanical wonders—rooted in her travels, research, and homeland nostalgia. Her works merge and recontextualize allegories and folk traditions in a contemporary context, and symbology.

Beaten Rose of Revolution - Paint by Parimah Avani - 2022
Located in Roma, IT
Beaten Rose of Revolution is a Drawing realized by Iranian Painter and Poet Parimah Avani in 2022. China ink and acrylic on ivory-colored paper. Hand-signed and dated with the embossing stamp. Excellent conditions. Presented in a Personal exhibition of "le Poesie Di Lutto e Di Lotta " (The Poems of Struggle and Mourning) curated by Leda Bartolucci in Turin, Italy, Bagni Pubblici, 2022. The artwork is poetically created through expressionistic brush strokes, the well-applied dry and watery strokes from the series “The Poems of Struggle and Mourning " in poetic style representing revolutionary figures in a minimalistic manner. What makes this series unique: is deeply behind the dynamic emotion of each figure and abstract form, four colors here have metaphorical features; pink as woman, yellow as hope, silvery as resistance, and red as blood. In her Exhibition "Heroine's Journey" presented in the Sparkasse Plettenberg, Germany in 2023, she with the same approach successfully presented revolutionary and rebellious gestures figures. The panoramic lines inspired by Persian calligraphy created motifs and repetition harmoniously in a neat composition,  each reminding mysterious words. The style of Persian calligraphy and her knowledge of poetry let her create a visual poem in an expressionistic style,  the use of space and maintaining an empty background and foreground intentionally have been made to emphasize the solitude and loneliness of figures and at the same time connect to oriental calligraphy in which empty space has the same value as the filled one, succeed to create pure incarnation. Avani's artworks have evident characteristics, firstly strongly inspired by Tachisme's “Abstraction lyrique" and artworks of Henri Michaux, and Hans Hurting secondly oriental Persian calligraphy of poem style is evident in her artworks, finally dynamic sensation of revolutionary art, the slogan of street wall transformed into contemporary language and its features intuitively are subtly inserted.
