About the Item
"Current" By Sarah Alexander is a 36 x 24 x 1.5 inch swirling abstract watercolor on canvas in a palette of turquoise, white, and soft browns. Part of Alexander's "Off the Studio Floor" series, "Current" experiments with shape templates made from discarded materials from the studio floors of artist friends. The artist collected odd shaped pieces of wood and used them as compositional guides. This piece has a yin and yang feel to it. Half of the painting appears to be underwater with a spiral winding throughout like DNA, or spiraling energy visualized during meditation. The soothing color palette reflects that as well.
Sarah Alexander is a contemporary mixed media artist with an emphasis on watercolor using unconventional surfaces and techniques. Her work is in private collections and has been shown extensively throughout New England, and abroad. Her work has been published by North Light Books.
