About the Item
This is an original Watercolor on paper figurative painting by Charlene Mosley. A cirtificate of authenticity will follow delivery. It is framed as pictured.
Charlene Mosley’s current work discusses the importance of the balance between inward looking and outward living.
“So often in a society that has certain standards and expectations, a lot of our true self is hidden or tamed to fit in, to appear a certain way or to belong,” notes Mosley. Her body of work is meant to inspire the viewer to live as courageously as a tiger, as resilient and freeing as a butterfly, and to shed in renewal, as a snake does. The wild animals in Mosley’s paintings reveal a connection to the person depicted in each of the works. The animals embody courage, strength, transformation, and reinvention. These creatures empower through their presence. Mosley’s work often depicts people of color surrounded by plants and beautiful stoic animals that harmoniously charge each other in vibrant color.

Charlene Mosley
Born in Berlin, Charlene Mosley is a fine artist, illustrator and muralist, who works in oil and watercolor. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts from San Diego State University and minored in German Studies. She resides in San Diego. Mosley’s current work discusses the 21st century media-driven society and its relationship to technology and nature. Her work depicts people surrounded by plants and animals, with an interplay of expressive brushwork. Mosley has exhibited in both national and international exhibitions. She also works as a freelance independent artist on a multitude of projects, including: murals, private commissions, and book illustrations. Her large roster of public and private murals include locations such as: San Diego State University, Barrio Logan, La Jolla Shores, Horton Plaza, Venice Beach, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Los Angeles and Lake Forest. In 2016, Mosley was one of the contributing artists of “Loving Vincent“, the first fully-painted, Oscar Nominated feature film. This opportunity was the artist’s first time working in animation. Creating over 250 frames of the film while in Poland “was life changing in a way, and a motivation to keep pursuing my passion as an independent artist”, notes Mosley. In addition, Mosley creates illustrations for children’s books, coloring books, novels, and other literary works. “My work depicts my curiosity in the way people connect to nature in a busy technology and mass- media driven world. I paint people I see in everyday life as well as myself and how I see myself interact with and observe my natural surroundings. I love to paint in a combination of expressive brushstroke and vibrant colors, with the effect of intriguing the viewer and letting the eye embark on a visually fulfilling journey.” -Mosley

Brought up in Boston, Crite received his art training al the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the Harvard University Extension School in 1968. He worked for most of his life as an illustrator in the Planning Department of the Boston Naval Shipyards, retiring in 1976, but continued to paint at the same time. His work has been widely exhibited and well received in Boston, where a square is named after him. Crite's early paintings depict the daily life of Boston's African-American community, a community that was to be transformed in the following decade by urban renewal and housing projects.
In his later paintings, magic-realist visions in which a black Virgin and Child ride on public transportation or float above the city streets, Crite used a bright palette rather than the more somber tones of his "neighborhood paintings...
